Marvel Comics has announced Symbiote Spider-Man 2099, a new five-issue limited series written by Miguel O’Hara co-creator Peter David.
Set to launch in March 2024, Symbiote Spider-Man 2099 teams David with artist Rogê Antônio. The debut issue features a main cover by Leinil Francis Yu, as well as variant covers by Ken Lashley and Greg Land. As the next chapter in David’s retro Symbiote Spider-Man saga, the new series takes readers back to the original Marvel 2099 continuity for a story where Miguel “becomes the host of a terrifying new symbiote.”

Per Marvel, an official synopsis for Symbiote Spider-Man 2099 #1 reads as follows: “Set your time circuits ahead to the techno-dystopian future of 2099! Miguel O’Hara, A.K.A. Spider-Man 2099, is facing a hostile takeover — of his own body! Kron Stone, the Venom of 2099, wages an all-out assault on Alchemax, and the only hope of stopping him lies with the power awakened by a top-secret project gone terribly wrong. What must Miguel sacrifice to seal the bond with his new symbiote — his body? His mind? His very soul?!”
Spider-Man 2099’s original writer returns
Created by David alongside artist Rick Leonardi, Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 first appeared in 1992’s Amazing Spider-Man #365 ahead of the launch of his own solo series. From 1992 to 1996, David penned 44 of the 46 issues that made up the original Spider-Man 2099 title. The writer later helmed a second, 37-issue run starring the Spider-Man of Tomorrow from 2014 to 2017.
Miguel made his big-screen debut in 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. He took on a much larger role in the sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which bowed earlier this year. Additionally, another five-issue comic book series titled Miguel O’Hara – Spider-Man 2099 is set to launch in January 2024 from writer Steve Orlando and a rotating roster of artists. That book will release weekly from January 3 through January 31.
