Deadpool Lands New Series From Spider-Punk Writer, Carnage Artist

Marvel Comics has announced a new ongoing Deadpool series from writer Cody Ziglar (Spider-Punk, Miles Morales: Spider-Man) and artist Rogê Antônio (Carnage, Venom).

Per Marvel, Ziglar and Antônio’s new Deadpool series launches in April 2024 — a mere three months before Wade Wilson’s return to the big screen in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3. The upcoming comic will give the Merc With a Mouth a new arch-nemesis by the name of Death Grip. Deadpool’s daughter, Ellie, will also play a “pivotal role” in the series.

What to expect from Marvel’s new Deadpool series

The House of Ideas teases that the Marvel Universe “isn’t ready” for the father/daughter duo of Deadpool and Ellie. However, “if Death Grip has his way, it’ll only lead to heartbreak!” Marvel further promises that “Ziglar and Antônio have a wild ride planned for the Merc with the Mouth … But all work and no play makes Deadpool a very DEAD boy!”

“Wade’s been one of my favorite characters since I first got into super hero comics, so being asked to helm a Deadpool series was a dream come true,” Ziglar said. “I look forward to diving into and exploring Wade’s family (found or otherwise), his unique approach to being a (mostly) unkillable mercenary, as well see what kinda of whackos they bring into his orbit.”

“Deadpool has always been on the list of characters I’d like to draw one day, and that’s finally happening!” Antônio added. “For me, he is one of the most fun characters and allows me to play with him a lot, artistically speaking. I can’t wait to see readers’ reactions!”

Of course, Ziglar is no stranger to writing self-aware Marvel characters. In addition to his comic book work, he previously wrote the eighth and penultimate episode of Marvel Studios’ Disney+ original series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. He also made a cameo appearance in the show’s ninth and final episode.

Deadpool #1 goes on sale April 3, 2024 from Marvel Comics.
