Marvel Reveals First Look Inside Fall of the House of X, Rise of the Powers of X

Marvel Comics has released first-look previews for January’s Fall of the House of X #1 and Rise of the Powers of X #1.

Fall of the House of X hails from writer Gerry Duggan, artist Lucas Werneck, colorist Bryan Valenza, and cover artist Pepe Larraz. Its sister title, Rise of the Powers of X, comes from writer Kieron Gillen, artist/cover artist R.B. Silva, and colorist David Curiel. The two six-issue limited series will depict the end of the X-Men‘s Krakoan Age, thus bringing over four years’ worth of storytelling to a close. At this time, Marvel has revealed a total of 10 unlettered preview pages from Fall of the House of X #1 and Rise of the Powers of X #1 — five from each book.

What are Fall of the House of X #1 and Rise of the Powers of X #1 about?

Per an official synopsis, Fall of the House of X #1 will “follow a team of Xavier’s most dedicated students — ShadowKat, Wolverine, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Rogue, and Gambit — as they seek to crush Orchis, the group of villains that brought down Krakoa.”

Meanwhile, Rise of the Powers of X #1 is set “10 years into a dark future.” The series will “introduce a new team of X-Men — Shadowtiger, Iron Man, Synch, Captain Krakoa, and Wolverine — who are ready to make a bold sacrifice to prevent an even more tragic fate for mutantkind.”

Marvel assures that both missions are “vital in the struggle not just for mutant survival but for all existence!”

“I’m trying to not let the responsibility of it get to me — the Krakoan Age, above anything else, is a story,” Gillen said of his approach to penning this final chapter. “Stories are about their structure — the potential of the opening, the developing richness of the middle, and (relevantly) the elegance and/or sledgehammer to the face of the denouement. I only got into comics to do good work. I need this to be good, and I think it is.”

The final battle for Krakoa rages on

Of course, the final battle for Krakoa will not be limited to the collective 12 issues of Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X. Marvel has also announced a number of tie-in limited series — Resurrection of Magneto, Dead X-Men, Cable, and X-Men Forever — which will run for four issues each. Resurrection of Magneto, Dead X-Men, and Cable all launch alongside Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X in January. X-Men: Forever launches in March.

Fall of the House of X #1 goes on sale January 3, 2024 from Marvel Comics. Rise of the Powers of X follows suit on January 10, 2024.
