The identity of Captain Krakoa has been revealed. Moreover, they have been exposed as an old enemy of Captain America — one Steve Rogers isn’t particularly happy to see return.
Uncanny Avengers #4 by Gerry Duggan, Javier Garron, and Morry Hollowell continued the mystery of Captain Krakoa. The bad Captain was revealed to be working for the anti-mutant group Orchis, who was radicalizing mutants into reforming the Mutant Liberation Front. This was in keeping with Orchis’ goal of painting all mutants as dangerous terrorists.
With the aid of reporter Ben Urich, Captain America and the Unity Squad set an ambush for Captain Krakoa. Unfortunately, Captain Krakoa proved capable of catching Steve Rogers’ shield and throwing it with equal ease. With a single ricocheting throw, he knocked out Black Widow and Penance. Another attack messily bisected Deadpool at the waist.
This enraged Captain America. Not only because of what had happened to his allies, but because he recognized Captain Krakoa’s fighting style and realized who he was. With a flurry of punches, Steve Rogers cracked Captain Krakoa’s helmet, revealing him to be the Steve Rogers clone called Hydra Supreme.
Hydra Supreme Captain America Explained
Popularly known as “Hydra Cap,” Hydra Supreme Steve Rogers was introduced during the 2017 Secret Empire event. This variant Captain America was created through the Red Skull’s manipulation of a sentient Cosmic Cube. The end result was a Steve Rogers who believed HYDRA was a force for good and almost helped them conquer the United States.
Hydra Supreme was believed to have been killed in 2019’s Captain America (Vol. 9) #8. He was attacked by the External Selene, who used her magic to burn the Steve Rogers clone to death. It is clear that Orchis somehow resurrected the twisted doppleganger for their own ends. It is unclear, however, just how they managed that feat.
