Later this year, Marvel’s Midnight Suns will headline their own video game adventure on both new- and last-gen consoles. So what better time for the House of Ideas to try out some cross-promotion? One month before the RPG hits stores on October 7, Marvel will launch a brand new Midnight Suns limited series featuring many of the game’s playable characters.
This latest iteration of the team (which notably changes the spelling of “Sons” to “Suns” in order to reflect the upcoming video game) includes familiar heroes like Blade, Wolverine, Magik, and Runaways mainstay Nico Minoru. However, it will also make room for newer characters like Kushala (a.k.a. Spirit Rider) and Zoe Laveau, the young sorceress from Marvel’s Strange Academy series. Over the course of five issues, these defenders of all things mystical will encounter a “dark prophecy” and “apocalyptic new villains with horrifying powers the likes of which Earth has never faced before.” Whatever this threat is, Marvel hints that it’s also somehow linked to Clea, who recently became the new Sorcerer Supreme.

“As a fan of the original Midnight Sons, I am honored and stoked to continue that legacy,” said writer Ethan Sacks in a new statement. “And I’m grateful to editor Tom Groneman for giving me the chance to dabble in this mystical corner of the Marvel Universe. We’re going to conjure up some wild otherworldly action to go along with some themes that have real world resonance. Having fallen in love with the team book concept on Star Wars: Bounty Hunters, I’m primed and ready to put this lineup of heroes through hell…so to speak.”
Sacks also praised the work of his artistic collaborator on the series.
”Seeing the first issue pages come in, I can also say artist Luigi Zagaria’s art is going to cast a spell over readers,” he added. “It’s just stunning work. He’s at the top of his game.”
Midnight Suns #1 hits comic shops on Wednesday, September 14.
