JLA/Avengers Crossover Will Be Reprinted To Honor George Perez

Last December, iconic comic book artist George Pérez announced that he has terminal pancreatic cancer, and that he has opted out of treatments in order to spend his remaining time with family and friends. Over the course of five decades in the industry, Perez made his mark on both DC Comics and Marvel, including runs on Justice League, Avengers, Teen Titans, Infinity Gauntlet, and the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. Now, both companies have come together for a Perez tribute.

Via EW, The Hero Initiative, in conjunction with DC and Marvel, is reprinting the long-out-of-print JLA/Avengers crossover from 2003-2004. Perez illustrated this dream project alongside his former Avengers writer and collaborator, Kurt Busiek. The new edition will collect all four issues of the miniseries, with 64 pages of bonus content.

Perez is a founding member of The Hero Initiative’s board of directors, which is dedicated to helping comic creators in need of financial assistance. He believes in their cause, and this limited run will raise funds in his name.

The new edition will be strictly limited to 7000 copies. So it will likely be highly sought after when it is re-released this spring. The Hero Initiative has also announced that it will include the original introductions by Marvel’s Stan Lee and DC’s Julius Schwartz. Additionally, Busiek has contributed a new afterward for this edition.

The new edition of JLA/Avengers will be available at participating comic book shops in March. Beyond that, it doesn’t have a specific release date yet.
