August will mark 60 years since Thor joined the Marvel Universe in the pages of Journey Into Mystery #83. However, the House of Ideas plans on celebrating that milestone a few months early this year. In April, Marvel will release a jam-packed issue featuring several all-star writers and artists from the Odinson’s long-running history.
The festivities will unfold in Thor #24, which happens to be the titular superhero’s 750th solo issue in legacy numbering. And in addition to the series’ current creative team of writer Donny Cates and artist Nic Klein, Marvel is rolling out the welcome mat for recognizable A-listers like J. Michael Straczynski and artist Olivier Coipel, who will re-team for a story set during their own critically-lauded Thor run from the mid-2000s. Dan Jurgens will also write and illustrate a new tale that pairs Thor with with his half-brother, Balder Odinson.
Additionally, Marvel has invited legendary Thor writer and artist Walter Simonson to pen a story starring Beta-Ray Bill. But don’t expect the God of Thunder to hog the spotlight all to himself. We can also look forward to Loki: Agent of Asgard collaborators Al Ewing and Lee Garbett giving the God of Mischief his own chapter in the upcoming issue. Meanwhile, Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz will join forces on another story centering on Enchantress. Finally, Jason Aaron, whose own seven-year stint in Asgard heavily influenced this summer’s Thor: Love and Thunder, is writing a “revelatory” new Odin story with help from artist Das Pastoras.

Plot details for the oversized issue may be slim. Regardless, we know that Cates and Klein’s main story picks up in the aftermath of their “God of Hammers” storyline. As Asgard continues to reel from its latest “brutal loss,” Thor and his allies will begin the process of picking up the pieces for their next adventure.
Thor #24 hits comic shops on April 13. You can view Klein’s cover for the issue below.
