A few years ago, Marvel cooked up a chilling vision of the future in its Old Man Logan series, which saw an older Wolverine traversing a post-apocalyptic landscape where many of the world’s superheroes have been eliminated. Now, the House of Ideas is returning to this environment with several additional survivors in tow. Marvel has announced plans to release five new one-shots under the Wastelanders banner later this year.
Each of these comics will focus on a different hero, beginning with Wastelanders: Wolverine #1 on December 1. Scripted by former Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight with art by Ibrahim Moustafa, the story picks up just a few days after the original Old Man Logan saga’s conclusion. Once again, Logan is targeting the oppressive reign of Red Skull and Bruce Banner. He must also watch over a “baby” Hulk while battling a new adamantium-armored villain named Downfall.
Next up, on December 8, writer Ethan Sacks and artist Ibraim Roberson will team up on Wastelanders: Hawkeye. In this timeline, Clint Barton has lost his sight. But luckily, he recaptures the “will to avenge” with training from Matt Murdock, now known as Stick. The following week, Rich Douek and Brent Peeples will debut Wastelanders: Star-Lord. This story finds Peter Quill returning to Earth after the Guardians of the Galaxy’s disbandment. Unfortunately, he finds only destruction. And when he visits the “site of his lost love’s death,” he discovers a “mysterious force” waiting for him.

“I’ve been a huge fan of Marvel’s Wastelands setting ever since the original Old Man Logan series,” said Douek in a new statement. “And it’s been an honor to contribute to it with Wastelanders: Star-Lord. Both the new podcast series by Ben Percy, and Old Man Quill from Ethan Sacks and Robert Gill inspired me to really dive into what makes Peter Quill tick, and to send him on a thrilling adventure in this grim and gritty version of the Marvel Universe. I can’t wait for readers to come along for the ride and see what we’ve cooked up!”
On December 22, Torunn Grønbekk and Julius Ohta will release Wastelanders: Doom, which catches up with the titular supervillain long after his rise to power. Finally, DeKnight and artist Well-Bee will bring this latest saga to a close with Wastelanders: Black Widow on December 29. Although she’s managed to keep a low profile over the years, Natasha will come out of hiding to infiltrate the Lizard King’s fortress and uncover “critical information.”

“It’s such a rare, bloody joy to be able to transport readers back to the universe of Old Man Logan in the one-shots for Wastelanders: Wolverine and Wastelanders: Black Widow,” said DeKnight. “Old friends, new foes, and quite a few surprises await. You don’t want to miss this one!”
