Spider-Man Gets Caught Up in Doc Ock and Vulture’s Sinister War in July

If you thought one Sinister Six was bad, imagine if there were two. This summer, Marvel will bring Peter Parker’s worst nightmare to life in Sinister War, a new miniseries that features dueling supervillain teams captained by Doctor Octopus and the Vulture.

Written by Nick Spencer and illustrated by Mark Bagley, the story spins out of Spencer’s current Amazing Spider-Man arc. Somehow, Doc Ock’s Sinister Six will run afoul of Vulture’s Savage Six, and their conflict puts all of New York City in danger. But even as they fight each other, the villains have one thing in common: their hatred for Spider-Man, who tries to quash their ongoing battle before it causes too much damage.

Additionally, Marvel has released a new promo image for Sinister War (courtesy of Bagley) that teases its villainous supporting cast. We still don’t know who’s on Team Ock and who’s on Team Vulture. Regardless, it certainly looks as though Spidey’s going to have a hard time fighting all of these big bads at once. The guest list includes classic Sinister Six staples like Kraven the Hunter, Sandman, Scorpion, and Rhino. Plus, we can expect appearances by the Lizard, Hydro Man, Tarantula, King Cobra, and Stegron the Dinosaur Man.

Marvel also confirmed that the new story won’t be confined to Sinister War’s four issues. Eventually, the action will spill over into Spencer and Federico Vicentini’s Amazing Spider-Man run as well. After Sinister War drops its first issue in July, Amazing Spider-Man #71 will pick up the slack later that month. And according to editor Nick Lowe, readers won’t be disappointed.

“Nick Spencer always goes big,” said Lowe in a new statement. “And this is his biggest story yet through this series and the concurrent issues of Amazing Spider-Man, so clear some room on your ‘Best Comics Ever’ shelf.”

Sinister War #1 arrives on July 14, with The Amazing Spider-Man #71 following on July 21. You can check out Bagley’s full promo image for the series and two covers in the gallery below. Which team do you think will come out on top this year? Let us know in the comment section!
