Exclusive First Look At Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: Her Fatal Hour

Last year, Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: The Beast of Vargu put the World’s Greatest Paranormal Investigator through the ringer. Two Romani women nursed Hellboy back to health. Now, the surviving woman, Nadya, needs Hellboy’s help or else her life and her soul are forfeit!

Tomorrow, Dark Horse Comics will release a new one-shot, Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: Her Fatal Hour, by Mike Mignola, artist Tiernen Trevallion, and colorist Dave Stewart. While this is a follow up to last year’s tale, it’s also a stand alone adventure according to Hellboy editor Katii O’Brien.

“It wasn’t planned from when ‘The Beast of Vargu’ came out last summer, but it was just a few months later,” said O’Brien. “Sometimes with these new characters Mike will have a few ideas for what we might do with them down the line, and in this case he wanted to revisit them pretty soon. Mike had Tiernen in mind for it from the beginning and looped us together around October, and the rest went from there!

Trevallion also shared his character designs for the story, as well as some insights to his take on Nadya.

Poor Nadya fell for a young man named Ferko, over her mother’s objection. However, Ferko is actually a demon who demands that Nadya submit to marriage. According to Trevallion, he wasn’t trying to foreshadow that reveal.

“There’s a moment before he reveals his true nature, as he loses patience with the situation and there’s an animal glint in his eye. Other than that, a slightly smarmy appearance perhaps. But other than that, not really.”

Because Hellboy is transported half-a-world away without his clothes, he spends most of the story in a woman’s bathrobe. Trevallion also indicated that was a choice made by Mignola himself.

“That was on Mike,” said Trevallion. “I’d like to think he added that in to fit my irreverent sense of humor, and when I read it in the script I REALLY wanted that to be the cover image. I had the palette worked out for the ladies’ bathrobe and everything!”

Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: Her Fatal Hour will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, December 2. You can read the first five pages in the gallery below.
