Lucasfilm Drops First Look at the Villains in Star Wars: The High Republic

Lucasfilm has debuted the first look at the villains who will test the heart of the Jedi in the upcoming Star Wars: The High Republic publishing event. Courtesy of StarWars.com, fans got the chance to meet The Drengir, The Nihil, and Marchion Ro, one of the most distinguished members of The Nihil. Together with the concept art, it came also a few lines of description for each villain.

“As the Jedi struggle to deal with the aftermath of the Great Disaster, a new creeping terror rises from the ground beneath their feet. The Drengir are sentient plant-life who are looking to reap a terrible harvest across the galactic frontier,” said writer Cavan Scott about the amorphous and full of tentacles and teeth Drengir.

We also got some information about the Nihil. They are based in the Outer Rim and are organized into three main divisions called Tempests. Their primary activity seems to be foraying, and they do not hesitate to kill whoever stands in their way. Marchion Ro is one of the Nihil faces who will put on quite a fight with the Jedi Order.

“Marchion Ro holds an important post within the greater Nihil organization — he is the Eye of the Nihil, as was his father before him. He doesn’t give the orders — that’s up to the Tempest Runners — but in a very real way, everything revolves around him,” said writer Charles Soule. “The things that make the Nihil more than just a bunch of Outer Rim raiders all come from Marchion. He is also, in every sense, a bad guy. And it’s been fantastic building someone around which to focus the darker elements of our High Republic story.”

The upcoming The High Republic: Light of the Jedi novel will kick off the first phase of the Star Wars: The High Republic project. It will debut on January 5, 2021.
