Marvel Will Release Alien Omnibus Volume 1 Next Year

Nearly 10 years after Ridley Scott’s original Alien movie revolutionized sc-fi horror in 1979, the Xenomorphs found their way into comic books with the arrival of Dark Horse’s first six-issue Aliens miniseries in 1988. Even more Alien titles followed over the next three decades. But now, Marvel has the publishing rights to the franchise. Next year, Marvel will kick off their own slate of Alien comics with jam-packed collections of everything that came before. Via Marvel.com, the publisher has revealed plans to release Alien Omnibus Volume 1 next spring.

The first volume will contain comics released between 1988 and 1992. That includes the aforementioned original miniseries, which was written by Mark Verheiden and illustrated by Mark A. Nelson. Readers can also revisit other classic adventures like Aliens: Earth War, Aliens: Genocide, Aliens: Hive, Aliens: Tribes, and more. The collection also features material from various editions of Dark Horse Presents and Dark Horse Insider.

Marvel announced that it secured the comic rights to both the Alien and Predator IPs earlier this year. However, Dark Horse hasn’t completely severed its ties to the Alien franchise just yet. Back in April, they began releasing Alien: The Original Screenplay as a five-issue miniseries. Dark Horse will also release this miniseries in its entirety in a special hardcover edition in December.

Additionally, Marvel has shared Nelson’s cover art for the upcoming collection, which you can view below. Alien Omnibus Volume 1 will hit comic shops in April 2021.
