Jurassic World Director Explains Why He Refused Guardians of the Galaxy

James Gunn did a marvelous job with the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, and now it is pretty difficult to imagine someone else directing those movies. But Marvel Studios actually had a different name in mind long before the project took off. During a live podcast with Empire (via Slash Film), Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow revealed that Marvel Studios offered him the helm of Guardian of the Galaxy, but he had to turn it down.

“I met on Guardians of the Galaxy long, long ago,” Trevorrow said. “Yeah, very early. It was a great conversation. I was not a comic book kid. That wasn’t my thing. I was a Star Wars kid, an Indiana Jones kid, a Spielberg kid – that was my thing. So I was a great conversation, but a little bit more of a personal understanding of, you need someone who loved this growing up. [They] should be the ones directing these movies. You’ve gotta live and breathe it in the way that I did Jurassic and these films that I get to be involved in now.”

Trevorrow went on to praise Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios for “one of the most impressive feats of narrative construction in film history.”

Maybe it is better things went this way and Trevorrow didn’t helm Guardian of the Galaxy. If he doesn’t feel comic book stories are his thing, it’s better if he focuses on other projects. He did a pretty decent job in Jurassic World, and no one is complaining about his departure from the MCU. Now the world is waiting for the next installment of Jurassic World, which Trevorrow is going to direct.

Jurassic World 3 arrives in theaters in 2021. Would you have liked to see Colin Trevorrow helming Guardian of the Galaxy? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
