Marvel Will End Its Star Wars Comic In November

Back in 2015, Marvel reclaimed the Star Wars rights from Dark Horse and launched an ongoing comic set after A New Hope. But after four years, Marvel’s Star Wars comic is coming to an end. As announced in Marvel’s November solicitations, Star Wars #75 by Greg Pak and artist Phil Noto will be the final issue of the series.

Here’s the description of the issue from Marvel: “FINAL ISSUE! IT’S A TRAP! The epic REBELS AND ROGUES storyline reaches its explosive end! Can THREEPIO save the rock people of K43? Is WARBA the master or the student? Which Champion falls? And how much of LUKE’S desperate plan has DARTH VADER foreseen from the beginning? The search for a new rebel base continues!”

Marvel’s original Star Wars comic debuted before the first film in 1977 and ran for 107 issues. While the current series will fall short of that mark, it will probably be replaced by a new series before the end of the year. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will hit theaters in December, and that would be the ideal time for Marvel to launch another comic.

The Star Wars ongoing had been slowly inching its way towards the events of The Empire Strikes Back. Potentially the new series could take place between Empire and Return of the Jedi. But it’s also possible that Marvel will launch a new title set during the Resistance era of the current trilogy.
