Marvel made a splash with their hip-hop-inspired variant covers a few years ago. Now, DC is trying their own hand at pop culture cross-pollination. Earlier this week, writer Tom Taylor took to Twitter to premiere two new alternate covers for his upcoming DCeased limited series. In keeping with the event’s harrowing tone, the variants pay homage to popular horror films. Both offerings can be viewed below.

Artist Yasmine Putri’s first contribution is an obvious nod to the poster for A Nightmare on Elm Street, with an undead Batman standing in for Freddy Krueger and haunting Poison Ivy. Putri’s second variant references last year’s The Nun, part of Warner Bros.’ The Conjuring universe.
DCeased will run for six issues and features artwork from Trevor Hairsine, Stefan Gaudiano, James Harren and Rain Beredo. The series begins with Darkseid unleashing a technology-based virus that spreads to 600 million people. Once infected, its victims become monstrous killers, leaving the remaining heroes of the DC Universe to find a cure.
When the event was announced in February, DC teased its launch with another variant cover inspired by the poster for It. Putri illustrated that one as well.
