Titan Comics Plans Snowpiercer Prequel Graphic Novel

The world of Snowpiercer is about to get fleshed out in comic book form. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Titan Comics is publishing a graphic novel set before the events of the film and its upcoming TV adaptation.

French comic book scribe Matz is writing the prequel, which will be called Snowpiercer: Extinction. Jean-Marc Rochette, who co-created the 1982 Le Transperceneige graphic novel the inspired the movie, is providing the artwork. Titan will release the book through its Statix Press imprint.

Bong Joon-ho directed the Snowpiercer film, which starred Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Octavia Spencer, and John Hurt. It depicted an apocalyptic near future that plunged the planet into a new ice age. The few survivors took refuge on a high speed train segregated by class. While the wealthy lived in privilege at the front, the poor people suffered in the back. However, the residents of the train attempted to start a revolution and take back control of their lives.

Plans for a Snowpiercer TV series materialized as early as 2015. Avatar 2 co-screenwriter Josh Friedman was originally set to be the showrunner and TNT ordered a pilot episode. Daveed Diggs and Jennifer Connelly were chosen to headline the series. Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson directed the pilot episode. However, Orphan Black’s Graeme Manson took over from Friedman and retooled the series. Derrickson subsequently refused to return for the reshoots. Supposedly, TNT still plans to premiere the series this year.

Snowpiercer: Extinction will hit store shelves in September. You can check out its cover below. Are you excited to further explore that world? Let us know in the comment section below!
