The first issue of Absolute Superman presented a radically different view of the Man of Steel. This Kal-El remembered his birth parents and never came to know the Kent family. Yet he is still an idealistic champion of the oppressed, fighting for Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow. The opening pages of the second issue continue where the first left off, with this Superman meeting Lois Lane for the first time.
Written by Jason Aaron, with art by Rafa Sandoval, Absolute Superman #2 finds Kal-El in the thick of it after defending Brazilian miners. Lois Lane, an agent with an unidentified agency, is caught in the crossfire between her comrades and the Peacemakers. This leaves Kal-El struggling to protect her and himself, after she binds them together with an advanced restraint.

How Lois Lane is unchanged in Absolute Superman
The most notable change to Lois Lane in the Absolute Universe is she is a soldier instead of a reporter. However, she still possesses the same nerve and idealism as the original. Unfortunately, that idealism consequently pits her against the Absolute Superman, whom she sees as a danger to Earth.
It will be interesting to see if Kal-El can win Lois over to his way of thinking through his actions. It is clear from the preview that he still refuses to kill or allow others to die if he can stop it. Even if the person he’s trying to save doesn’t share the same values and is trying to arrest him, with some success.
Absolute Superman #2 arrives in comic shops everywhere on December 4, 2024.
