Kraven the Hunter director J.C. Chandor is hoping that fans will give the upcoming superhero movie a chance.
Kraven the Hunter releases in United States theaters next month. The sixth film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU), it stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular character, while Ariana DeBose plays Calypso Ezili and Russell Crowe plays Nikolai Kravinoff.
Speaking with ComicBook, Chandor opened up about how he hopes people will give the movie a chance and allow it to “wash away” some of the past SSU misfires.
What did J.C. Chandor say about Kraven the Hunter?
“I don’t want to get too into the nitty-gritty of it, but here’s what I would say: For me as a filmmaker, my number one goal, especially, quite frankly, over the last couple of years where you guys are deep in this world … some of the fans out there, a lot of the fans, were upset with certain decisions and certain outcomes [of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe],” he said. “Then with other films, they’ve gone on to be tremendous successes. So there’s been there’s been a mixed success rate. People have got to give us a chance and come out and support this film, and literally try to wash away some of the other stuff that’s happened. Give our film a chance.”
Chandor added, “And I think they’ll realize that we’ve done everything we can to give them a pretty fun story. You’ll see when the movie’s over, there’s potential for a lot of things to happen. But my goal was to isolate our movie, protect it, and just tell a good damn story. And then we’ll have opportunities to do a lot of fun things.”
Sony’s Spider-Man Universe launched in 2018 with Venom. That movie was followed by 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage, 2022’s Morbius, 2024’s Madame Web, and, most recently, 2024’s Venom: The Last Dance. A Spider-Noir television series starring Nicolas Cage is also in the works, while a number of other projects are in various stages of development.
Kraven the Hunter will be released in United States theaters on December 13, 2024.
