Superman & Lois’ Michael Cudlitz reveals how Nikolai Witschl’s Brainiac comes into play
With Superman & Lois nearing the end of its fourth and final season, Michael Cudlitz discussed the introduction of Brainiac and Nikolai Witschl’s portrayal of Milton Fine in an interview with Screen Rant.
Cudlitz described the casting process, stating, “Nikolai Witschl was wonderful. What was exciting about casting him was, this was the first time we had in-person auditions since COVID… there was just something about him that really drew me to his performance.” Witschl’s debut in Season 4 Episode 8 marks a key step toward Brainiac’s introduction.
Cudlitz, who also directed the episode, explained, “Ultimately, [Nikolai] was great… I knew he was my choice, and all I had to do is go through approval with our showrunners, and ultimately the studio confirms that we can hire them.” Milton Fine’s inclusion ties directly to the season’s larger narrative. It sets the stage for Brainiac’s role as the series nears its conclusion.
Cudlitz noted, “I think the fans are going to really enjoy what he has to bring for the rest of the season.” While Brainiac’s full introduction remains forthcoming, the groundwork laid in recent episodes demonstrates the show’s deliberate pacing and narrative cohesion.
As Superman & Lois concludes, it continues to honor Superman’s mythology by incorporating key villains into its storyline. The remaining episodes will reveal how Brainiac’s role unfolds within this adaptation of the DC universe.
