Exceptional X-Men #3 Preview Features Emma Frost and Kitty Pryde Fight

There is a long history of bad blood between Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost. The two found a peace of sorts during the Krakoa age. However, the opening pages of Exceptional X-Men #3 make it clear that Kitty isn’t ready to forgive or forget where the White Queen is concerned.

Written by Eve L. Ewing, with art by Carmen Carnero, Exceptional X-Men #3 picks up where the previous issue ended. Kitty Pryde was trying to live a normal life in Chicago free of the influence of the X-Men. Despite this, Kitty kept finding new Mutants in need of guidance, and getting involved in saving them.

This attracted the attention of Emma Frost, who had secretly been spying on her former teammate. This would have raised Kitty’s ire, even if she weren’t skeptical of the White Queen’s motives for stepping in. This leads to a classic X-Men smackdown, as the two heroes do battle with one another.

Emma Frost and Kitty Pryde have a history

When Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost first met, the White Queen was still a part of the villainous Hellfire Club. They kidnapped the X-Men shortly after Kitty began attending the Xavier School. It was not a pleasant introduction, and Kitty remained her harshest critic after she endeavored to reform.

Ironically, this was precisely why Emma Frost later requested Kitty Pryde be recruited for the Astonishing X-Men team. While the White Queen had taken on most of the X-Men’s moral code, she feared she might backslide if given any leeway. By having Kitty around her, Emma could be sure that someone would hold her accountable for her amorality.

The two eventually found some degree of mutual respect, if not actual friendship. This was why Emma Frost recruited Kitty as the Red Queen of her Hellfire Company during the Krakoa Age. It would seem, however, that Emma’s typically cool and callous behavior has reopened the old wounds.
