In a recent interview, the director of Venom 3, Kelly Marcel, touched upon a rumor surrounding actor Rhys Ifans’ role in the upcoming movie and revealed whether he is returning as The Lizard.
Venom: The Last Dance will be arriving in theaters on October 25. The sequel has been announced to be the last movie starring Tom Hardy as Venom and has spawned numerous fan theories already. One of the biggest talking points for fans has been the appearance of Ifans in the film’s trailer, leading many fans to speculate over whether he could be reprising his role as Dr. Curt Connors / The Lizard from the Spider-Man films The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Rhys Ifans ‘plays a new character’ in Venom 3, confirms director
Venom 3 director Kelly Marcel recently took part in a one-on-one chat with IGN about the movie and spoke about some of the characters revealed in the trailer, such as the villain Knull and another mysterious character played by another former Marvel actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Marcel was asked directly about Rhys Ifans’ character and confirmed that Ifans will be playing a new character in Venom: The Last Dance. She told the outlet, “It’s not uncommon for actors to be cast as different Marvel characters across various films and this is no different. The best actors for the roles were cast and Rhys is no exception, he plays a new and different character in a really fun and important role and I am so excited for people’s reaction to his wonderful performance.”
In the trailer for Venom 3, fans can see Rhys Ifans sporting a hippie look, with a beard and long hair. His character can be heard saying, “There comes a time in every man’s life where you have to make a sacrifice,” in the trailer.
