The film, starring David Corenswet as Superman, will focus on Superman’s struggle to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing.

Alan Tudyk has joined the cast of James Gunn’s Superman in an undisclosed role.

Tudyk’s addition to the cast was reported by Deadline. He voices Doctor Phosphorus in Creature Commandos, sparking speculation he may reprise the role in live-action for Superman. Besides, James Gunn has confirmed that the actors will play the same characters across DC projects, as seen with Frank Grillo. This possibility depends on whether Phosphorus survives Creature Commandos.

The Superman film wrapped filming in July 2024 and will be released in 2025. Directed by Gunn, the film stars David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The movie will follow Superman’s journey as he navigates his Kryptonian heritage and his human upbringing in Smallville, Kansas.

The ensemble cast also features Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. Supporting roles include Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen.

Additionally, Milly Alcock will make a cameo appearance as Supergirl before starring in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (via Variety). This film begins the new DC Universe’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Alan Tudyk’s recent projects include voicing Hei Hei in Moana 2 and reprising his role as K-2SO in Andor season 2. His role in Superman is part of James Gunn’s effort to reboot the franchise and establish a new direction for the DC Universe.

Superman will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
