Warner Bros. Delays Dune: Part Two, Sets Monsterverse Sequel Date

In a not-unsurprising turn of events, Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment moved the date of their highly anticipated Dune sequel today. But not by a lot. Per Variety, Dune: Part Two will bow Nov 17, 2023, instead of Oct 20. It’s a move that will place it more solidly in the awards-season space rather than having it compete for young adult dollars with the Halloween season’s usual horror movies. And put it fresh in the minds of awards voters, in hopes it can equal or best its predecessor in that department.

Legendary and WB also set a date for the next Monsterverse movie of March 15, 2024. Though it’s informally called a Godzilla vs. Kong sequel, it’s not at all clear that Warner Bros. maintains continuing rights from Toho to use Godzilla characters. Kong is more complicated, with some rights to the character studio-specific and others public domain. Until creature participants get confirmed, all we really know is it’s set in the universe where the Monarch organization monitors kaiju.

Dune: Part Two recently added Lea Seydoux as Lady Margot, Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, and rising Elvis star Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha. The film should follow the second half of Frank Herbert’s original novel, and conclude the adaptation of the first book.
