Disney+ Adds a Synopsis For Obi-Wan Kenobi Series

In just over two months, Obi-Wan Kenobi will bring back Ewan McGregor in the title role 17 years after his last appearance in Revenge of the Sith. While it’s long been established that Kenobi spent nearly two decades on Tatooine, the first trailer for the series revealed that Obi-Wan is heading off world. What we don’t know is why Obi-Wan would temporarily abandon his mission to protect Luke Skywalker. However, the series’ official page on Disney+ now has a brief synopsis that may shed some light on what’s to come. You can read it below.

“During the reign of the Galactic Empire, former Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi embarks on a crucial mission. Kenobi must confront allies turned enemies and face the wrath of the Empire.”

If Obi-Wan is leaving on a “critical mission,” it begs the following questions: what mission? And who gave Obi-Wan the mission?

One thing we can glean from the trailer is that the Imperial Inquisitors are still actively searching for the Jedi in hiding. According to the Grand Inquisitor (Rupert Friend), the Jedi can’t help themselves. They have to protect the innocent and help the oppressed. And that may lead a trail directly back to Obi-Wan.

Hayden Christensen also stars in the series as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, with Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars, and Bonnie Piesse as Beru Whitesun Lars. The only other characters currently revealed are enemies of Obi-Wan. That includes Moses Ingram as Reva/the Third Sister, Sung Kang as the Fifth Brother, and Indira Varma as an Imperial officer. Kumail Nanjiani, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie, Maya Erskine, and Rory Ross also have roles on the series.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on May 25 on Disney+.
