Sonic the Hedgehog 2 began filming in March and wrapped principal photography last month. Jeff Fowler is returning to direct the sequel, with co-writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller once again tackling the script. Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey are also set to reprise their roles as Sonic and Dr. Robotnik, respectively. Additionally, the new film is expected to introduce several other characters from SEGA’s classic video games, including Tails and Knuckles.
The original Sonic the Hedgehog exceeded expectations when it hit theaters last year. In addition to receiving strong reviews for a video game adaptation, it was also one of the few films to open before the pandemic struck. As a result, it became one of 2020’s highest-grossing films.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will hit theaters on April 8, 2022.
