Ryan Reynolds Thinks Deadpool 3 Will Be a Win For Everyone

For a few months now, Ryan Reynolds has been teasing Deadpool’s entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And while many fans are excited by the prospect of the Merc With a Mouth interacting with the likes of Spider-Man and Doctor Strange, others are worried that Marvel Studios’ unified, family-friendly vision will interfere with what made the Deadpool franchise successful in the first place, most notably its R-rating. Fortunately, Reynolds doesn’t seem concerned about any of this. While speaking with Total Film (via Heroic Hollywood), he provided an update on where Deadpool 3 currently stands and shared how he feels about his character’s new home.

Although Reynolds recently claimed that he was working on Deadpool 3 with Marvel, this latest interview makes him sound less certain about what the future holds. Regardless, he’s still eager to continue telling Wade Wilson’s story on the big screen.

“I don’t feel like an insider at all,” said Reynolds. “I think once I’m more intimate with it – if we get to make a Deadpool 3… if or when we get to make a Deadpool 3, I’ll probably have a better perspective on that. But I’m a huge fan of Marvel, and how they make movies. So when Disney bought Fox, I only saw that as a good thing. Deadpool hopefully being allowed to play in that sandbox, I think is just a win for everyone involved. But we’ll certainly see.”

Former Disney CEO Bob Iger previously expressed an openness to continue making R-rated Deadpool movies under the Marvel Studios banner. But now that Iger is no longer in charge, it’s not clear if this is still the plan. Disney recently made headlines for prudishly censoring some mild nudity for Splash’s release on Disney+. And if Disney can’t handle the sight of Daryl Hannah’s bare ass, it’s hard to imagine the studio granting carte blanche to Reynolds’ notoriously foul-mouthed mercenary.
