According to Netflix The Witcher over 76 million households have tuned in to the series since its debut last month. It’s created a huge new audience for writer Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher novels. But in an interview with Gizmodo, Sapkowski revealed that he didn’t have much input on how the show came together.
“Not very much, on my own request,” stated Sapkowski when asked bout his level of involvement. “I do not like working too hard or too long. By the way, I do not like working at all.”
Additionally, Sapkowski shared his belief about why the show and the novels should be separate entities.
“For the record: I strongly believe in the freedom of an artist and his artistic expression,” said Sapkowski. “I do not interfere and do not impose my views on other artists [and] I do not insist on anything and do not fight for anything. I advise. When necessary. And asked for.”

Sapkowski also talked a bit about the show’s production process, and what impressed him the most about it.
“A lot of things…Believe or not, when I write I don’t see any pictures. It is not a visual process with me. I see letters only and I work with letters. So, when I see some visualization of my work — be it comics, games or movies — sometimes I am really surprised. Mostly pleasantly.”
The Witcher’s first season is on Netflix now, with the second season set to debut sometime in 2021.
