Yesterday delivered the surprise announcement that Hulu has chosen not to pick up Marvel’s Ghost Rider series. That show, along with the still-in-development Helstrom, was supposed to introduce Marvel’s “Adventure Into Fear,” a block of new horror-themed programs on the streaming service. Now, series star Gabriel Luna has responded to the show’s cancellation in a new post on his Instagram page.
Luna was going to play the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider, a role he originated during Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s fourth season. It remains to be seen if Marvel will try to find the series a new home. But for now, Luna himself doesn’t seem all that devastated by the news. He acknowledged the volatility of the TV business and reminded fans that his acting future is still looking bright. That is, he has a starring role in Terminator: Dark Fate, which opens in November. Luna’s Robbie Reyes initially crossed paths with the characters on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. when they encountered ghosts who attempted to harness the power of the Darkhold. Robbie was last seen taking the Darkhold back to the dimension where it came from. When the Ghost Rider series was first announced, it was suggested that the show would take place in a continuity separate from the MCU’s TV landscape. However, neither Marvel nor Hulu actually clarified this.
