This December will mark 40 years since the classic Enterprise crew starred in their first theatrical film. To commemorate this milestone, Fathom Events will host nationwide screenings of Star Trek: The Motion Picture in September.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture arrived more than 10 years after the original TV series concluded its three-season run in 1969. It was directed by Robert Wise and reunited the series’ core cast members for a mission to contain a new alien threat. William Shatner returned as James T. Kirk, now an Admiral in Starfleet. He was joined by Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nichols, DeForest Kelley, George Takei, James Doohan, Walter Koenig, and more.

While the film polarized longtime fans upon its release, it established Star Trek’s staying power on the big screen. The original cast went on to appear in five sequels before the film series began focusing on the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Fathom Events will screen the film on September 15 and 18. Most recently, the company brought the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher Batman films back to theaters in honor of that character’s 80th anniversary. Fathom also gave The Transformers: The Movie a limited re-release last year.
Tickets for the upcoming screenings will be available beginning August 2.
