Isaac Hempstead Wright Explains Bran’s Creepy Stare in Game of Thrones

Bran Stark’s life has never been the same after his fall from that tower in Winterfell in the first episode of Game of Thrones. Season by season, Isaac Hempstead Wright’s character has become more and more pivotal in the story of the Seven Kingdoms as the character transformed into the “Three-Eyed Raven.” Not quite a man, to put it in his words.

During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the actor revealed how he managed to do that creepy facial expression during the premiere of Game of Thrones’ eighth season, when he sat in the Winterfell courtyard and stared off in the distance for the much of the episode.

“Yeah, I’m kind of getting good at this sort of intense stare,” Wright said. “But it’s actually aided by the fact that I’m completely blind when I’m on set. I don’t have my glasses and I don’t have contact lenses.”

The actor recalled a funny moment with co-star Sophie Turner, who plays Bran’s sister Sansa in the series. Due to his Myopia, Wright has to stare while trying to focus on anything.

“I can just remember, I was doing one scene in Season 7 with Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa, and she said, ‘Isaac, your stare, it’s like you’re staring into my soul’ and I said, ‘I can’t see you! That’s why,'” he said.

Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on HBO. You can check out the full video below.
