The very first Star Wars comic was actually published by Marvel in 1977 before the first film hit theaters. It ran for 107 issues before coming to an end in 1986. Now, Marvel is briefly going to revive the series for a Star Wars #108 one-shot that will reunite the classic cast with the bizarre characters from the original comic.
Via ComicBook.com, Matthew Rosenberg will write Star Wars #108, which will feature art by Giuseppe Camuncoli, Luke Ross, Kerry Gammill, Andrew Broccardo, and others. The story will be a sequel to the late Archie Goodwin’s “Crimson Forever.” And according to Marvel, it will feature Amaiza Foxtrain, Domina Tagge, and even Jaxxon, the green humanoid rabbit. Think of Jaxxon as a precursor to Jar-Jar, who wasn’t quite as annoying as the infamous Gungan. Jaxxon was a rival smuggler and occasional ally to Han Solo and Chewbacca.
Additionally, Marvel released the cover image by iconic artist Walt Simonson, which features Darth Vader fighting Valance the Hunter, a droid hating cyborg. Valance was also an antagonist in the early days of the Star Wars comic.

“It’s hard to explain now what the original series meant to me as a kid,” said Rosenberg while speaking with ComicBook.com. “We didn’t have all these amazing video games, and novels, and prequels, and sequels and spinoffs. There were a few novels, the Ewok movies, and these comics. And these comics gave me the impossible: the chance to spend more time with my favorite characters, he added. “I couldn’t believe I could walk into a store and give them a few bucks and walk out with even more adventures of Leia, Luke, Chewie, Han Artoo and Threepio. It felt magical to me then, and honestly, those comics still feel that way to me today.”
