The series, which ran for 38 issues between 2003 and 2009 (1-18 and a zero issue at Image and, subsequently, an additional 1-19 at Dark Horse), tells of an alternate 1930’s in which the Catholic Church still holds primary political power over a feudalistic world and in which a murder mystery is played against a search for the Holy Grail.
Though a script by Jim Uhls has been in development for some time, the arrival of Klugman and Sternthal marks a bit of a coincidence. The pair contributed to the story for TRON: Legacy and that film’s director, Joseph Kosinski, is now planning his followup feature, Horizons, co-created by Rex Mundi comic book author, Arvid Nelson.
There is no word yet on how quickly the studio wants to move with Rex Mundi or any information as to whether or Depp might be interested in starring as well.
