Ryan Reynolds on Green Lantern and Deadpool
Source:MTV
November 25, 2009

MTV talked to Ryan Reynolds, who said that a highlight of 2009 for him was seeing the prototypes of the Green Lantern costumes. "It was a moment when I was like, 'This is happening, and it's happening in the right way.' That's a pretty cool, definitive moment for me." Here's an excerpt from the interview:

I've known about "Green Lantern" my whole life, but I've never really followed it before. I fell in love with the character when I met with [director] Martin Campbell. When I sat down with him, I really got what it is that this guy is all about. When you have a guy like Martin Campbell, part of his charm is that he has ba--s of titanium, and the other part is that he's slightly crazy, and you have to be to take on something with the scope of "Green Lantern." He's less of the director and more of a general. He just really knows strategies, he knows the intricacies, and his attention to detail! It's infectious. I sat down with him, and I could not even believe what he was saying. When I went to the meeting, I was entirely cynical. I thought, "What the hell, I'll see what they have to say," and I left the room with a completely different perspective.

Nice sounds good

we need to see these prototype costumes!!! Mostly for Green Lantern!

I think this looks VERY promising. I actually think that Ryan will be perfect for this role. My only wish is that he wasn't already playing DEADPOOL, and had already played Blade's Sidekick. There is such a thing as 'over-using' an actor in a particular genre. Can you imagine Christopher Reeve playing Punisher? When you take an actor that is going to be the 'face' of a well-known hero and yet he is also the face of a much lesser-known hero, it just takes away from the magic.
Ryan will do great, however, and I'll just try and go at this with a fresh mind. He seems to be trying to do just that.

what can i say? I cant wait!

Bring on Deadpool!!!!!!!!!!!

Have to agree with Honest Fan on "over-using" an actor, but hopefully it will all work out and come together nicely.

You will make it Ryan.Bring GREEN LANTERN to Life. This must be an incredible absolutly cool Costume, if Ryan say that.I CANT WAIIIITT!!!
So bring it on!!!

I WANT DEADPOOL!!!! BUT GREEN LANTERN IS SOUNDING GREAT

I agree with manoftomorrow010 we need those costumes. I think it will validate for all of US that this is happening. especially with green lantern. If any one important is reading this stuff, show us some pictures because now we know you have at least some ideas. We need something to chew on and masticate for a while.

Ryan don't mess this movie up, with your stupid unfuuny humor! Your not funny! Your Stupid and you remind me of Lame Dane Cook. Blade 3 and wolverine sucked!! This has a chance to be really good. Thank God they didn't get Justin Timberoff. Bradley Cooper would of been a better choice.

Posted by: Bulletbillx on November 25, 2009 at 12:03:42

As deadpool he should be unrecognizable due to the scarred face and wearing a mask most of the time.

How many millions in special effects is this going to cost? Cause I don't think this movie can get by on Reynolds charm alone. I am a fan of GL, just can't see this movie being made right now. As for Deadpool, shelve it. Wulvereeen sucked so bad, Hoover is looking at replacing their vacuum cleaners with it.

Hey DeadFox. It's hard to take your entire post seriously when the fact YOU'RE (i.e. you are) misusing "your" so frequently. It's totally distracting. I mean, you can't call someone "stupid" when you just typed "would of" instead of "would have."

Try again.

I dunno 'bout him as Hal Jordan... but ya know?? The guy's good. So I'll wait to see what they show us...

Posted by: DUDE221 on November 25, 2009 at 12:44:56

Deadfox shut up. You wouldn't know good humor if it was shoved down your throat. Reynolds can be funny and cool at the same time. Blade Trinity did it for him. Can't wait for Deadpool.

wow...the fangirls need validation? Thats a stretch isnt it?

Its not enough that the star of the movie is telling you about it, but you have this (silly and very scary) base need to know every waking detail...why not actually enjoy the ambiguity of it all? Its not going to be the PERFECT GREEN LANTERN!

Get over it and get real...and don't for gods sake mention "Sam Worthington, Thor, Capt America, and how it needs to be on par with The Dark Knight". You crazies really need to expand yourselves past the limits you have...

Posted by: balloonknot on November 25, 2009 at 12:49:29

Lets see. Green Lantern will be the sh*$ but Deadpool is at FOX. Hmmmmm. lets be honest with ourselves, FOX and comic book movies dont get along. Deadpool will fail. At least at being a true comic book movie.

Posted by: Macaroni Tony on November 25, 2009 at 12:57:07

I see him more as a personality for DeadPool than GL.

But I'll be seeing both so...

Posted by: mojojackson on November 25, 2009 at 13:12:19

DeadFox:

Hey, now. Whether you like Reynolds or not, there's no reason to compare him to Dane Cook. No one deserves that.

Posted by: sarasbigdaddy on November 25, 2009 at 13:25:02

this might be the only time I EVER do this...

But I agree with Mojo...

No one need be compared to Capt "Door Kicker"

Posted by: Anton Ego on November 25, 2009 at 13:25:58

Ryan Reynolds is a douchebag of galactic proportions.

That is all.

Posted by: Jameson on November 25, 2009 at 13:49:13

Ryan Reynolds sucked in Blade III (as did the whole movie), he sucked as Deadpool in the Wolverine film, and he'll suck supreme as Green Lantern. Will the execs ever learn? Wait, that's a stupid question.
Reynolds is good playing a snarky **** in movies like Waiting - nothing else.

Posted by: chilipalmer on November 25, 2009 at 13:54:01

I think Reynolds is a great choice for both Green Latern and the Merc with a Mouth.

I can't wait to see both of these movies. Although I'm more excited about a DEADPOOL flick. There is not enough DEADPOOL in the world. I hope that movie turns out.

GR is fun, but I'm bot a huge fan of the character. I mean in the DC universe he's about 5th on my list.

My Christmas wishlist:
1. I want to hear more about CAptian America.
2. I want a good Superman movie.
3. I want to hear that Johnny Depp will be the Riddler in DArk Knight 3

strength and honor lads

He'll do well as Hal Jordan. I initially thought that Chris Pine would be a great Hal, and still could be, but I am getting used to the idea of Ryan doing it.

Posted by: The Steve on November 25, 2009 at 13:55:29

Apparently I'm in a minority here but the more I read and listen to Ryan Reynolds (particularly in relation to these two movies) the more I like him.
Say what you will about his acting or movie choices in the past but the guy genuinely seems to have a love for this genre and particularly for Deadpool. It makes me hopeful to have guys like this pushing for a movie that will please the fans of both characters.
