Singer Interested in Returning to X-Men
June 1, 2009
Many X-Men fans were disappointed when director Bryan Singer decided to venture off to Superman Returns instead of directing X-Men: The Last Stand, the third movie in the trilogy he kicked off with X-Men and X2 in 2000 and 2003, respectively.
In a recent interview for the July issue of Total Film (reprinted in the Coventry Telegraph's The Geek Files), Singer mused about returning to the franchise:
"I'm eternally intertwined with X-Men now," he told them. "What takes an audience four hours to watch - the first two movies - took six years of my life. So, to not be part of it....It's a shame."
They also asked Singer whether he wished he had directed the third "X-Men" movie, to which he replied, "It's weird for me to watch it, because I'm so close to the universe. And also Brett is a good friend of mine. But, of course, I would love to return to that universe."
Lastly, they tried to get his thoughts on possibly directing the in-development X-Men Origins: Magneto that had been announced years ago with David (Blade: Trinity) Goyer attached to direct. Singer gave a tentative "possibly" response, because he expects it to cover some of the same WWII Nazi Germany territory he's covered before:
" The only thing that concerns me about Magneto is that if the prequel were to follow the track I used in X-Men, which is Magneto's history in the concentration camp, then I've lived in that world. Apt Pupil, X-Men and now Valkyrie...I've lived in that Nazi universe for quite a while. I just might need to take a little break before I do something like that."
He was even less committal about making another Superman movie:
"I don't know, I don't know. There are still issues...I just...I just don't know. I don't necessarily...I don't know. It's one of those things where...It's so weird talking about stuff unless I'm about to ramp up and shoot it."
Let us know below whether you'd want to see Singer return to either superhero franchise.

OK. This is how SR should've gone. Instead of this shoddy, completely random bit about exploring the remains of Krypton and Lex marrying into wealth. Ready?
Superman leaves Earth after being wracked with guilt over killing the Phantom Zone criminals in SUPERMAN II (much like in the comic storyline). He dips out in his ship to contemplate life and do whatever it is you do in space (lose touch with humanity, etc.). Meanwhile, Lex, having stolen the Kryptonian's technology from the Fortress, manages to convince the world that HE stopped the aliens while Superman left Earth to her own defenses. He is treated like a hero, starts a company called Lexcorp and uses the alien tech to quickly become one of the most successful businessmen in the world. This all happens in the five years that Supes is gone. Supes then returns with his self-esteem issues but must leap into action when Lex inadverdantly awakens Brainiac, who has been residing in the Fortress the whole time in hibernation. Meanwhile, Lois is not dumb as hell like she is in the other movies and starts to figure out Clark / Kal, the romance blossoms, fights, kissing, fights, revelations, yadda, big fight at the end, Clark and Lois hook up and we get a cliffhanger for Doomsday.
That's how it should've gone. Peace.

Bryan Singer sucks. He is admitting he made a mistake leaving X-Men to do that stupid Superman sequel... he has no business asking and should never be allowed to direct anything X-Men or Superman again! He screwed up and he knows it!
Posted by: dorobikoy on June 2, 2009 at 01:54:58
why return to x-men? the 3rd was the best and he's not involved.
he should have made superman wear a mask, it's too dumb how anybody would not recognize someone if he took off his eyeglasses, also supe' costume should've been updated, just like what he did with wolverine & the xmen, red brief over blue tights sucks men...
Posted by: dorobikoy on June 2, 2009 at 02:01:42
also, did'nt he see tim burton get rid of the batman's brief over tights?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! It's because of him that there's so much retarded crap in the X-Men (and maybe Marvel) movie universe. He started a chain reaction.

Continuing my last post. . .
That way Lex would've turned Supes' greatest moment of despair into his advantage. . .the public would love Lex and be distrustful of Kal. Poetic f'ing genius **** right there.

While I didn't think Singer did the best job with "Superman Returns" it'd be awesome for him to return to direct more films for the franchise.

the LAME director . . . . . returns

OMG OMG!!! This is the best News on Superherohype.com since X-2. Please, Oh Please get him back to the X-verse. The last two were like Joe Schumaccer taking over for Tim Burton's Work. It doesn't work!!! Although the Action & Special Effects were great the movies felt shallow and not epic like his first two movies. Please Please, Get him on X-men: First Class. Have him do an all new trilogy on it.

The only man who can direct a decent X-Men movie = Bryan Singer!
This guy used to be my hero until he ditched the X-Men for lame ass Superman. errr...

DO THE NEXT SUPERMAN - PLEEEEASE!!!

Give him back to the Xmen franchise and keep him far away from Superman please. Superman Returns was a huge disappointment on so many levels. The suit first and formost was awful, all wrong. The fact that he got kryptonite wrong completely!, One small rock of it can render Superman weak an powerless and near death as shown in Superman 1978, but in Returns he manages to lift an hurl an entire land mass infested with it, into space. He never again confronts Lex or the villians who nearly killed him. And Brandon was way to lanky looking for the role. No Singer, unless you've learned your lesson and agree with the criticism you've received for Returns, stay the hell away from Superman.

You are a moron. Superman flew with grace? IT looked so faked and BAD CGI. Original Donner's flying version was 1000 times better. SR was worst superhero movie ever made. Superman having a stupid looking bastard Kid was terrible. SO GET LOST YOU STUPID LIL KID AND DON'T WASTE OUR TIME WITH YOUR BORING COMMENTS

Singer's a strange director to peg. Have you noticed how strong his career began and how quickly its devolved into mediocre films? Valkyrie felt like a Kleenex tissue -- totally disposable. Still, he has such a natural knack for the large-scale wonder of superhero movies, and does it with substance ... even if Superman Returns left some feeling disappointed.

Seriously, what's with all the hate for Superman Returns? I thought it was a perfect Superman movie; I loved it from top to bottom. It had fantastic character development, it was a great launchpad for sequels, and I was ready for one the second Superman Returns ended and made me want to stand up and cheer. You people have problems. X-Men is done now, from what I've been watching. Let it go. Superman is the great original superhero; maybe y'all aren't taking to him because he's too pure and idealistic for this jaded age, but personally I want Bryan to make more movies about him. He did a fantasic job.

Keep Bryan Singer AWAY from Superman. He ruined the movie by connecting it to old 70's films kids today have never seen. Superman needs to be restarted like Star Trek, Batman and Bond. Superman is my favorite hero and I was so looking forward to the film...
Then in the theatre my heart sank into a deep depression when I saw what Singer had created. Clark was depressing, the acting was awful and Luthor's plot made no sense. Only the airplane sequence worked. The rest was awful. Please Bryan...stay the heck away from Superman and go back to the X-Men where you belong.

As pointed out many times before, Singer is the Joel Schumacher of the Superman franchise.

He needs to get back to X-Men and help it recover from that unwatchable trash that Ratner unleashed upon us.

KEEP SINGER AWAY FROM ALL MARVEL SUPERHERO MOVIES. HE'S THE GRIM REAPER.
Bryan Singer is the death knell for any Marvel movie. I don't think any studio could trust him. None of his movies have reached blockbuster status and Sony and Universal have shown that they can produce the movies with better directors and gain more than $200 and $300 million.
X-Men barely made $100 million and the same with X-Men 2."
You have an incredible knack for getting facts wrong that are easy to look up online.
X-Men (1) had a sub- $100 million dollar budget, and made nearly $300 million worldwide in the box office. It made over 150 million in US box office alone, and that doesnt include the huge home video sales.
X-Men 2 had a little over 100 million in budget, and made over 400 million in the world wide box office.
You should do a bit more research (like some actual research) before knocking a director.

Reboot the x-franchise and don’t let him anywhere near it or any other comic movie.
Posted by: SuperheroFan on June 2, 2009 at 13:50:09
@ Midnight Black, I agree with you there. Move away from superhero stuff. You didn't cast the right people to play x-men in the first place, so just leave it alone.
I Want to see the New Sunfire in his own movie. Now that character looks cool...er Hot!!

I think the whole "Superman video media" needs work. I hate the "Superman Prime" Universe that live action movies incorperate.I mean even the writers at DC thought that CONCEPT waS LAME,hence Super-boy prime was a douchebag. Now the cartoons are ok. I liked the Superman cartoons from the 40's("Super friends?" lol) and the adventures of superman from the 90's. The Justice Leagues were cool.I hated Superman: Doomsday. Bruce Timm ****ed that one up.

Bryan Singer can start fresh with First Class. Put the first X-Men against the first Brotherhood or something cuz their was only four original members in the first one (Magneto, Mystique, Sabretooth, and Toad) A young beast would be cool too and put Quicksilver in it.
