Watchmen Blu-ray to Include Facebook Feature

The Hollywood Reporter says that the Watchmen Blu-ray Disc will include some interesting new features:

In an industry first, Warner Home Video is set to announce a plan to sync up "friend" networks on Facebook with the interactive community-screening features of Warners' Blu-ray Disc releases, starting with the release of "Watchmen Director's Cut."

The studio partnership with the social network Web site will use the BD-Live interactive feature on high-def discs, allowing "Watchmen" purchasers to view the film simultaneously and share comments with their Facebook friends.

Another new Blu-ray feature -- dubbed Warner Bros. Maximum Movie Mode -- will allow split-screen viewing of "Watchmen" to focus on elements in director Zack Snyder's on-camera commentary.

The trade says a Special Edition DVD, Blu-ray Disc and Standard-Disc DVD will be released in late July. You can read more on the three versions here.

I am SO looking forward to the release of the Director's Cut Blu-Ray! I hope that it comes out July 28th...It provideds my wife with the perfect 39th birthday gift for me on the next day! Love the comic, love the movie & Tale of The Black Freighter DVD! I can't wait to see it all together at home in Blu-Ray high definition!

I also hope that they include the extras from The New Frontiersman website on the D.C. Blu-Ray as well! I felt that they all were nicely done and I would like to own it for posterity.
*Fingers crossed*

Who's with me?
I always was disappointed that The Dark Knight's Blu-Ray didn't include an outline of the viral campaign Ala the Why So Serious site or the wiki pages.
Oh well, that's enough from me.
Discuss amongst yourselves...

i don't care how many different flashy versions they release for the blu-ray version of this.....this movie sucked and was a huge disappointed for all the hype and marketing put into it and all of the cool trailers and interesting plot line it was supposed to have....

Posted by: okplrimyoprtpsseetcvbdf on May 11, 2009 at 03:41:36

Why can't they just release a Blu Ray VERY Special Edition that shows Dr. Manhattan's Blue *** for 2 hours non stop? This way people on Facebook can talk more about what they usually talk about anyway.

so... this is news? ANNOUNCEMENT: BLU-RAY DISC WITH A EXTRA ONLINE FEATURE!!! who woulld have guessed? i dont care just bring me the directors cut, thats all i want. Nelson, youre a boner, enough said.

Is there a good point to this feature? I asked a couple of my colleagues and not one seems interested in that feature. Anyone think it'd be useful? (not moaning, just starting a genuine discussion)

Currently play.com have the Watchmen on pre-order with 'bonus digital copy'... it's all great except I'd have no use whatsoever with that disc. That's the only version they do with the collector's booklet too. Where's the director's cut? Hope they plan to release that outside of America as well.

Anyway, hope they really make a sweet ass package box set that includes the swashbuckling Tales Of The Black Freighter.

They also need ot cut down prices of Blu-ray, it doesn't need to be anywhere near as expensive as it is, generally speaking.

Ok class... for those youngsters who ACTUALLY read that real graphic novel, raise your hands! And now, for those people whose hands are not raised and who are calling this movie crap, then you OBVIOUSLY did not read the book! It is one of those most PERFECT screen adapatation ever made! Whether the story was good or not is not the question. So, all you one-dimensional fools who are only amused by special effects and cannot think for one second about "theme", you can yell at Allen Moore if you didn't get the deeper meaning of the movie (given you even "know" who Allen Moore is). So, for the kids complaining about this flick, go back and watch your Jonas Brothers movie and leave the real movies to the REAL FANS, children.

The people who made Howard the Duck thinkk this movie was bad and over-hyped. The Mystery Men was a better superhero movie than Watchmen. Sphynx: He who questions training only trains himself at asking questions. That was a hoot you could dig! Watchmen took 3+ hours to tell us that sometimes some so-called superheros can suck. And the point was...to make us not like superhero movies? I didn't read the Grafic Novel and now I have no reason too read it or buy the DVD. I wish I could get back my money, time, and erase the memory of this craaaaaaap!

I liked the motion comic DVD better which is basically the live action movie minus the squid. A live action film with the same themes minus the costumes would have worked for general audiences to justify the hype. I like the death of Rorschach in the film better though. Watchmen is a movie you definitely want to buy on Blu-ray with all that Snyder tried to bring to the table.

Those that don't like Watchmen are the same people who were blown away by Wolverine. Who needs a good story when you can have cartoon claws and a bad story to show them off with. Those that never read the comic were expecting Watchmen to be a mindless action flick and were disappointed when they had to think. Simple minds are most easily entertained by explosions and crappy one-liners.

I am really hoping for a good directors cut of this film. I went to see it in the theater and I left with many questions, such as why did they bother to kill Rorshach at the end. He is definitly thought as a deranged vigilante who has mental problems. Who would believe anything he had to say?

I missed the squid! New York going Nuclear was kool, but I wish they had stuck to the original material.

Posted by: tonamania on May 11, 2009 at 12:59:37

The movie was excellent - best adaptation of the original work that could have been made at around 3 hours. Snyder's direction was even better than that of '300'.

My impression of those not familar with the gn: "So these dudes have no super powers execpt for the blue naked guy? What's with the talking and the flashbacks? Oh to hell with this. Why's that dude called Roar Shack? When's Wolverine coming out?!"

@comic-book-guy

It's what you expect with kids who grow up watching michael bay films.

I don't really know what the big deal about Watchmen was. I have and read the Graphic Novel and the movie is practically dead on with it, but I didn't find it all that intresting. Am I missing some kind of hidden meaning?

Posted by: Prog on May 11, 2009 at 13:48:28

Can't wait! This movie is one of the greatest comic book adaptation!

Posted by: Steyin on May 11, 2009 at 13:56:48

I loved the GN, but in all honestly the film was ok at best. The visuals were great, as was some of the acting, but it fell short for me; especially with the altered ending and material left out. Granted not many would want a 4+ hour film, but given what it was presented as, it just didn't hit the mark all too well. As per the BRD, I'd probably just rent it.

Meh.

The movie blew.
