Snyder delivers! It's pretty clear he understands the look and feel of comics. I had no doubts.

Why is Dan the one warning Veidt about the mask murdere?!?!?!?!

****SPOILER****

Veidt is supposed to look like a saint, a guy you can blindly trust. Why did they make it so obvious that he's the villain?!?!?!

****End of SPOILER****

WOW!! HOLY CRAP, I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M ACTUALLY WATCHING SOME SCENES!!

but the discussion between rorschach and nite owl actually takes place in the owl ship, right? not outside. anyway, i jizzed my pants.

Interesting....looks okay. What I don't like is that fact that a lot of action movies nowadays are doing that whole "slow the speed of motion to make it look more epic" effect. Don't get me wrong...it looks good a lot of times...but also, a lot of times it's during scenes that don't require it. In this movie, it just looks a bit stupid. In 300 and matrix, it was amazing.

@ Starblazer

I don't think it's obvious. What gives it away? All of them don't look as friendly as Superman.

Slow motion. Ugh.

Posted by: Razorus on February 17, 2009 at 19:46:53

Hmm, alright. I guess I should have expected it, but I gotta be honest, I was ever so slightly disappointed. Just a teeny weeny bit.
I'm still looking forward to it, and it will be awesome.
Just a couple of issues, first of all, too much slow-motion. I expected as much, since its Snyder (aka 300 style).
Secondly, a couple of those scenes were a lot different from the graphic novel, more so than I expected. I really don't like Nite Owl talking to Veidt like that, but it's understandable if they follow David Hayter's script, which I've read. It sets up the ending you see.
The Rorschach scene is normally in Archie, but the scene was ok.

Posted by: Fanboiii on February 17, 2009 at 19:50:49

Regular motion. Yuck! Slo-mo is a just standard special effect. It's like complaining about color.

Posted by: OMG on February 17, 2009 at 19:58:21

Too much slo-mo? How about unbelievably wooden performances? How about it feels like the scenes were all filmed in a shoe box?

It's like Chuck E. Cheese meets War and Peace.

This is going to suck, suck, suck.

Posted by: Zahin on February 17, 2009 at 20:00:53

Some parts Slo-mo works..but the scene with Comedian...didnt really cut it. ALso where Laurie jumps down didnt need to be slo-mo either...But who knows, its only a scene...it may play out very well in the film's atmosphere.

EVen though the scene with Dan and Viedt isn't completely faithful, it actually works. And the tone and atmosphere of that scene is how I imagined Watchmen to be.

90% of the clips are exactly how I wanted it to be...So I am happy with Watchmen so far :)

Im a German Fan and sometimes we have to wait weeks or even month till an u.s. movie starts here, but the first screening of Watchmen is 4th of march!!!
Ill be there!

Looks cool, but I think the cast could´ve been a little older, I think they are in their 40s in the comic, right?

Does this have anything to do with Walkman? I thought it was about Sony's new time piece/personal music player.

Posted by: bluntt on February 17, 2009 at 21:06:23

I agree with OMG... sounds like they're reciting lines. And I wasn't expecting the arrogant, smarmy vibe from Veidt.

God help us all.

.....................OH.............MY...............GOD!!!!!!!!!
That was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I felt like I was watching the graphic novel!!!!!!!
I can't wait!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: OMG on February 17, 2009 at 22:12:03

I had to go back and watch them again.

Yep. They still suck. Could Malin Akerman *be* any more stiff and talentless? Could that slo-mo during the "fireball" *be* any more pointless? Thank you, Zack the Hack.

For what it's worth, be sure to check out the Kenneth Branagh "Thor" clip on the IGN link. Fun stuff, especially with Terrence Stamp there. That's alright, SHH!. I'm on it for you.

I agree the acting was a bit wooden but the complaints about the slo-mo need to stop. Snyder used the slo-mo effect in the right scenes of the movie in order for fans to realize its a frame from the graphic novel. If it was to quick paced then people wouldnt realize it. I think it looks excellent.

Posted by: Fanboiii on February 17, 2009 at 22:27:56

The scenes weren't even dramatic enough to be criticized as wooden. What kind of emotions do people expect in those scenes? I think it's a petty complaint. Night Owl/Patrick Wilson was great.
