Yeah, opening in theaters with an entirely different ending than previously published.

Zack Snyder, you have turned your back on the fans, the book, and your integrity.

I was so gung-ho for this and now, ....I'm completely dejected. I couldn't really care less and am kind of hoping they lose the lawsuit with Fox.

Because you don't take one of the greatest, if not the greatest, story in comic book HISTORY, and film an completely new ending to the story. YOU JUST. DON'T. DO IT.

And now he has...and the movie will suffer as a result. Moviegoers will take what you give them, and since it is about people in costumes, etc., to begin with, the "squid" ending isn't that fantastical that they couldn't accept/understand it. It'd be obvious that Adrian was behind it and people would get it.

You wouldn't have a movie where Batman kills at the end, right?!? Or would that change the movie too much? How about a film where Wolverine was portrayed by a woman?

No, you wouldn't do those things. Because it changes the movie RADICALLY.

No but, it's o.k. to make Dr. Manhattan a murderer. Yeah, THAT'S acceptable.

Why? Is it because these characters are less known and Snyder feels he can play with their histories??

By pinning the attack on Dr. Manhattan, tension would only INCREASE as a result. Peace wouldn't all of a sudden sweep across the globe. The Soviets would believe that he did it under orders from the U.S. Govt., since he is their agent.

Snyder better get his @$$ in gear and film the correct ending or he's done in my book. And my wallet will stay closed on anything he makes.

It's your funeral Zack...and I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Holy crap I'm ready...though it's 7 pm CT...what do i do in the mean time?

Posted by: ico on November 13, 2008 at 00:20:55

Is the lawsuit still happening?

Posted by: Ryan on November 13, 2008 at 00:35:10

Relax, Blood Red. I'm pissed about it too, but it's not the same thing as making Wolverine a woman. The same theme is gotten across. It's done via an altered method, but it accompliches the same feat, and will end on the same note. And the rest of the film is very faithful.
I'm more upset about the cotumes, namely Nite-Owl's, than anything else. I think it's a bit harsh to say you'll never watch anything Snyder again. Come on, man. I understand where you're coming from, but don't take it too far.

bloodred you are an idiot do you even know hard zach had to fight for certain things t obein watchmen :

- no one wanted 1980 time frame no script had it that way and studio's didn't but Zach fought hard to keep it hey you could of had movie based in 2008 on the war in Iraq and terrorism and he had screenwriters and himself rewrite script for time frame

- had to fight to keep naked Manhattan with junk and all hanging out he wanted it like that because he was like that in the GN

- in the script Adrian was suppose to die and Rorschach was suppose to live just so you know he totally changed that

- had to fight for the 2Hr 45Min. time frame they wanted it even lower

- also hwo in the hell do you know if zach changed it or he no choice to change it do you think zach has the final say. The studio can force his hand maybe he had to sacrifice the squid to keep alot of other stuff like say Rorschach brutal back story or 1980 timeframe

you just don't know wait till 3/6/09 to fully judge and the review(early ones ) have all been very good and post production wasn't even close to being done when early screening happened mind you

Look forward to Watchmen in March of 2009 guys and girls Zack Snyder is a genious first 300 now Watchmen he will return for a 300 sequel so each Z. Snyder film gets better and better. You, know what everyone Zack Snyder should direct God Of War What do you think I would choose him over Brett Ratner what a disastor if he directs.

Posted by: Saph on November 13, 2008 at 02:53:42

Anybody who understood the ending would know that whether it was a squid or not is completely irrelevant.

Posted by: Jesse on November 13, 2008 at 03:47:20

I think I'm just going to wait and see the trailer at the midnight screening of Quantum of Solace.

About the Squid, maybe I'm the gullible one, but I honestly believe Snyder is misleading us and other people, that he's doing the proper ending and wants it to still be a surprise. Maybe he didn't show the squid during the test screening because that's what the TEST was.

I would like to know what the ending will be if it isn't the squid. I've heard a few things about radiation destroying several cities around the world but that's all I know.

Blood Red - fair enough - we'll all think of you when we watch the movie.

Enjoy your miserable life.

I was 20 when the GN came out, I worked in a comic shop and bought the issues as they came in. Do you want to tell me I'm not a fan of the GN if I enjoy the movie?

The movie is its own thing. Whatever it is will never detract one iota from the existing GN. That stands on its own, and always will.

So what is your problem?

Never mind. I can see for myself.

I love Watchmen the book, and Watchmen the movie.

Go Zack. Change that ending all day long. I don't care. Now I hope it is changed just to make the little girly boys on here run home from the theatres and fall crying into their pillows.

People like Bloodred enrage me. Don't tell me I'm not a true fan just becasue I have a different opinion and outlook than you do, fool.

Keith..nice post. I just hope I DON'T think of BR when I see the movie. don't want to give him the satisfaction or have my expierience tainted by his useless opinion.

I read the book and didn't care for it's ending. I remember thinking it was kind of stupid and could have been done differently. Plus, no one knows if it is truly going to be different or if it's a mis-information tactic.

In addition, the vast majority of those going to see the movie will not have read the original graphic novel and will probably be fine with the ending. I usually don't like movies changing dastically from source material but I've had it with the cry babies on here threatening to ruin Snyder's career over this, etc. I got news for you fools. This ending change won't affect his career one teeny tiny little bit. If the movie is viewed as a success it will propel his career & if it's not then it may hurt him somewhat but the ending itself being different will not make a difference. Grow up and get real you losers.

I was loosing sleep thinking about how much I wanted to see this film. I was pleased to see all the journals and pictures so far and loved the work Snyder did, but then this thing about the ending...

What was the point of killing the comedian then? Thats how the book started!!! Come on Zack, don't let us down.

Posted by: free buttkicking on November 13, 2008 at 08:51:34

keith, you're still a condescending *******. i'll think of you the next time i take a dump.

bloodred, you're right. rorschach's existential perspective that we're all alone can't be cancelled unless the threat is alien. saying that all there is to it is tricking countries into peace is missing a lot of the book's rich texture that could easily have been included. snyder and poseurs on this board won't listen, though. they get emotional, but without a good reason for their passion, and sound like studio plants.

it's true: real fans can't be happy with this ****. maybe if he hadn't lied from the beginning, or hid his true meaning in semantics, things would be different. i won't plunk a dime on this.

you have to adapt, there is no possible way to follow any sizable story in a movie. no movie has ever been as good as the book. watchmen isn't the bible, and the movie the bible took plenty of liberties and the movie was loooonnnggg!
that's life, get over it, or just don't go see it! i'm going to see it. as long as it holds the attention and captures the overall feel and story i'm fine with it. to be great for all the, watchmen is the greatest the ever written crowd, it would have to be about 8 hours long.

Posted by: firelord on November 13, 2008 at 10:01:38

Guys...guys...it's a movie. Life will not come to an end if it isn't exactly like the book(s).
I think most of you have imbibed in the same drugs that Alan Moore is on...i.e., taking this all WAY to seriously. Enjoy the book(s) as I have and take the film in for what it is. Gawd!!!
