Snyder on the New Watchmen Trailer

Dark Horizons got a chance to see the Watchmen footage that was screened in North America recently, but they also sat down with director Zack Snyder and learned new things, such as when we get to see two more trailers. Here's a clip:

The second however is on its way, attached to "Quantum of Solace" in theaters next Friday. Snyder says "I just saw the final version of it this morning... it's a little bit more story, a teeny bit more like a full trailer. This is much more like 'someone's picking off costume heroes'. You'll get a sense of the characters plight you know, 'we were supposed to make the world a better place... what happened to the American Dream'." Some elements have had to be changed for the trailer, most notably Dr. Manhattan's exposed genitals have had to be 'defocused' to be granted approval by the MPAA. He also confirms a third trailer will hit early in the new year.

He also talks about the test screening ending and much more here!

In related news, 1up.com has revealed the new cover of EGM magazine featuring Watchmen. The issue concentrates on the upcoming prequel game, "Watchmen: The End Is Nigh," which will be downloadable and episodic.

It's a nice read

Really looking forward to this one. I hope it's embraced by the general populace as well as all us "fan-boys".

Coupled with the new Star Trek trailer, it seems like half of the entertainment I'll be getting on the 14th will be before Quantum of Solace even begins to roll. :D

God help us all!

now i'm def. gonna see Quantum of Solace lol.. if the trailer isn't with the movie, i'm walking out lol

What's the final runtime? "I'm hoping 2 hours 42 minutes, with credits." That theatrical version however is just one of three versions of the film planned for the eventual DVD & Blu-ray release. There's also a three hour director's cut of the film with "the scenes all fleshed out", and the 'Black Freighter' version which will combine that Director's Cut with the 'Black Freighter' short film that will clock in at three-and-a-half hours. How the Black Freighter version will be incorporated and packaged is still undecided - "For me 'Black Freighter' needs its own box, it's packaged with like cool props from the movie and supplemental material. It's like this big thing you put on your shelf and go 'that's f**king Black Freighter' you know."

I want to see this so bad. But I'll pass on the exposed genitals... The movie won't have much replay value if I have to see Dr. Manhattan's guys every viewing... I want a faithful graphic novel-to-film, but c'mon, for the love of cinema, give him the Ken doll effects.

It kills me that they won't use the true ending, but whatever.

Posted by: Dean on November 8, 2008 at 08:42:47

To be honest, I couldn't see what all the hype was about this. That's down to not reading the novel. But I thought I'd give it a shot and buy myself a copy.

I finished it yesterday and I can honestly say, WOW!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait for this movie to come out!!

Please let the movie be true to the graphic novel!

Quantum Of Solace sucked !!!

Can't wait for Watchmen, though.

Damn you, SHH! Why do you play these games with my heart? I posted a link to this last night in another Watchmen thread, and you deleted it. Just had to have the scoop, huh? Well, good for you, Jimmy Olsen. Too bad DH beat you to it.

THE REAL STORY HERE IS THAT THE ENDING IS CHANGED. Read the article. The squid is out. People only react to what you spoon feed them in web forums. He's framing Dr Manhattan, like in the Hayter script. It makes no sense.
My kneejerk reaction is to say I'll never see it. I know I'm interested in the performances and some of the visuals, so that may change. A lot of good people have put a lot of work into this thing, and they deserve credit. I won't lie about the ending though: that is an ass idea. It may unhinge the whole story. So far, it looks like a major fail.

Loved the 1st trailer... second one was a bit...meh..

Hope the third one is good :D

Posted by: Methos on November 8, 2008 at 10:33:24

Well since they are still rolling out the trailers I guess they think they can still get it out on the release date despite the legal problems. I certanly hope so. it would suck if this gets pushed back.

Zahin:

...there is no second trailer. There's only the theatrical trailer from July and a montage of footage from the SCREAM Awards.

J: Grow the **** up and stop being a pathetic homophobe.

I guess the trailer wasn't shown before the movie in the UK. I would think it would have been leaked online by now if it did since the movie came out last month for them

Ban This Sick Filth Now!

Posted by: Duke Of Pico on November 8, 2008 at 13:53:48

Uh oh! Snyder is screwed now! Visuals are the only thing he is ok at! Once the trailers start to show "acting" and "dialogue" instead of just visuals... Well, we will get to see the wonderfully horribly directed performances which he is known for!! Oh, and don't forget the horrible dialogue pacing, that made all conversations in 300 seem like you are listening in on the short bus!!

Keep Snyder away from making anymore friggin movies!! As a major fanboy, I've wanted to punch him for quite awhile now! He is such an arrogant jerk who thinks he is a better writer than Frank Miller and Alan Moore! We will just change the ending... "I made 300, I know better. I added in the rape and trial scene into 300!" He is such a douche...

seeing ho all the actors are very good actors i highly doubt that

Posted by: gtrman on November 8, 2008 at 16:18:13

**** Snyder for changing the ending. Arrogant prick-ass. What, did he run out of money and couldn't make the squid? The whole point of the squid is to stop people from warring and come together against a perceived common alien enemy. If they turn Dr. Manhattan into that perceived enemy, I won't see it...in the theater. As if Snyder could ever write better than Moore. Cock-hole.

Posted by: Bob on November 8, 2008 at 16:37:25

Okay Sasso....so a person is a "pathetic homophobe" if he doesn't want to stare at male genitals for an extended time.....riiight.

You grow up.

gtrman and Duke of Pico, hey guess what?
Sorry to rain on your anti-Snyder parade, but he didn't write the scripts for any of his movies, he just shoots them. He might make some minor tweaks here and there, but he didn't structure the story, the screenwriters do that. Do you really think that most directors write their movies like Nolan does? Most of them do not. the way i see it, there was never going to be a better version of 3oo made into a movie, and the same will probably go for Watchmen too. It sucks about the squid, yes i'll admit that, but i'd rather see an otherwise faithful adaptation of the material, minus squid (which was the dumbest part of the graphic novel, you have to admit that. "hey i know i'll teleport a giant alien squid" i mean, seriously wtf?). I'm not so fanatical to say that i'd rather have no movie at all. the squid is a letdown, but i can still enjoy a good story minus a dumb plot device.
