In addition to the teaser trailer which you can now watch here at Apple, Warner Bros. Pictures has updated the official website for the Zack Snyder-directed Watchmen movie as well!

At the site, you can read the synopsis, get new downloads such as wallpapers and icons, view the photo gallery and read the production diary. Oh, and there's a countdown clock and cool Flash animations!!

Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly is going all-out with coverage on the movie this week. You can read their exclusive feature that includes more photos here (view the magazine's cover here) and an interview with Snyder is up here.

Also, we received the following "Watchmen Mason Auto Repair T-Shirt" that NECA will be handing out at the San Diego Comic-Con next week. Mason Auto Repair is owned and operated by the original Nite Owl, Hollis Mason.

Watchmen, opening in theaters on March 6, 2009, stars Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley, Matthew Goode, Billy Crudup, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman, Carla Gugino, Stephen McHattie and Matt Frewer.

I can't help but feel excited yet terrified for this film. Zack is telling me how great he will make this film, but that there will be compromises.

Why oh why does Entertainment Weekly have to get involved. They are like 50/50 with their articles. I hope they give The Watchmen the respect it deserves. EW is something I will always protest if I wasn't lazy to actually protest. Ha! Bring on 03/06/09... 3 to the 6 to the 9. Cool!

Why the F*** would anyone want to wear those stupid F***ing shirts? With all the cool things they could have made T-shirts of, from the thing and THIS is what they come up with? F***ing Stupid Hollywood jerka$$es!

It reminds me of Dirty Jobs

you know.. what ruined the entire trailer for me... honestly.. was when that nasal Smashing Pumpkins voice had to hit. i'm not thrilled about any Batman film, ever, but at least it is more 'iconic' and less 'dated' by its own musical theme, which you can at least not associate with something *else*. did Synder consider that some people would find that a terrible voice that some people didn't like? something like that doesn't fit 'Watchmen' whatsoever. NO band/artist would. so i was actually very surprised when the trailer began just like any other trailer would.

What ruined the trailer for me was that it looked cheap

Posted by: sauceman on July 18, 2008 at 03:07:49

by the posts on here it seems like damn near none of you have read the book, that looks spot on, theres even panels from the comic in the trailer. half you tards wouldnt know something good if it bit you in the ass

Posted by: Dr.Zeus on July 18, 2008 at 03:14:02

cheap?! are you kidding? You people crack me up. "Dated music", "Zack sucks" you never know what it will be like until the credits roll. Shut up and quit complaining, we'll all know soon enough.

Posted by: Darkman on July 18, 2008 at 06:01:39

If the movie is anything like the trailer then I'm even more psyched about Watchmen than TDK. And I didn't think that was possible at this fudging point! And I loved that Smashing Pumpkins song. The titled song seemed very fitting for Watchmen considering what the book is about. So now that DC is putting out some premo cool movies do I have to make mine DC?

the shirt's okay. i like that they kept it a little obscure. that makes it more for the fans. they could have gone with something like a 'pale horse' shirt, which might have been cooler.
in the pics of the comedian in the ew article, you can see him menacing carla gugino, and you can see him in the bar in viet nam. the bar looks like bazooko circus. i see what people mean about that looking cheap. i probably would have been alright with it but everything up until yesterday lead me to believe this movie would be dingey and dirty.

Posted by: happy button on July 18, 2008 at 07:49:02

and in those pics, the comedian's scar doesn't seem to connect to his mouth, and he's got a mustache when he's a minuteman. wtf?

I myself have my doubts as to the finished quality of this film, but I think at this point it's impossible to really call. Zack Snyder may have his (glaring) weaknesses as a director, but I also know that he hasn't exactly reached his full maturity as a director, and those weaknesses might not actually be permanent traits, but rather growing pains of a director trying to find his style and voice. He could vastly improve as a director, he could get drastically worse, or her could stay right where he is; no one, not even Snyder himself, knows at this point.

At any rate, saying whether a movie is going to be good or bad at this early stage is like calling heads or tails on a coin toss; there's no skill involved, just guesswork. The posts in this thread so far have been pretty reasonable in tone and conjecture, but my gut feeling is that some subsequent posts are going to be less ****ytical and more like "THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO ROCK" or "THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO SUCK."

Even if one makes a prediction about a movie's quality before it is released and is completely right, before you pat oneself on the back, remember that there's no real honor in calling a coin toss correctly.

...and for the record, I'm calling "Enjoyable but nevertheless disappointing," for this one, which makes me something of a hypocrite. Hey, at least I admit it! And who knows, maybe Snyder has grown as a filmmaker since 300 and will surprise us.

Wow.

2 points:

1) What's up with my mixing up "you"s and "one" in that second to last paragraph?

and 2) What's up with the censoring? Is that word (you know, the one often followed by "retentive") considered offensive by ANYONE? And I didn't even use the word!

Lemme try something: Rectalytical....

Posted by: watchmen baby on July 18, 2008 at 10:06:27

for the 10,000th time, it's 'watchmen' not 'the watchmen'. it's impossible to know if people post that to piss off hardcore fans, or if they just don't know any better, so i won't bother correcting anyone again.
i think for new directors, ambition can more than not pay off. zack wants to make his reputation, and this is a great way to go about it. orson welles made 'citizen kane' early in his career, but unfortunately it overshadowed everything else he did.
i don't even think it looks much like the comic. i'm actually more worried about that than the story getting lost.
maybe i'm being too rectalytical. [i'm using that word from now on, it's hilarious]

Posted by: Capp_90 on July 18, 2008 at 10:24:39

I agree with Wyngarde and Steerpike. I couldn't help but notice that the trailer was more action packed than anything else, and while it is too early to call the films quality, it is still safe to assume that this film won't exactly be the big screen WATCHMEN that truly devoted fans wish to see. Although this could be revealed to be a marketing mistake. And personally I believed Rorschach's voice to be too gritty and not so bland and deadpan as I had always believed it to be. He sounded ALOT like Batman.

Rectalytical is funnier than dead babies.

I have the observations on what I've read:

1)"hmmm, Entertainment Weekly following Watchmen seems kinda strange to me. Something isn't right..."--Jay

I blame Billy Crudup, who's had a semi-heartthrob following at least since 'Inventing The Abbots'.

2) @FireFly's Enigma: Am I catching on late, or overthinking that the significance to the numbers 3, 6 and 9 are the visible numbers on most clockfaces other than 12(midnight)?

C) @Steerpike: They censored the word b-a-n-a-l on me the other day.

I'm eager to see this film. If I might be permitted to hypothesize, I think it'll be pretty good. Heads!!!

Posted by: FireFly's Enigma on July 18, 2008 at 11:11:18

@Patman

I didn't really mean anything about it. Just playing with numbers. Like how the Summer Olympics begin on 08/08/08. I was just being a little eccentric.

Posted by: FireFly's Enigma on July 18, 2008 at 11:18:18

Those shirts look a little, uhmm...plain. No one would know what Mason Auto repair is unless they know Watchmen. I didn't even realize it at first.

Posted by: Patman on July 18, 2008 at 11:28:37

I still wouldn't be surprised to see the date of release end up on a watch face somewhere.

Posted by: Patman on July 18, 2008 at 11:29:55

Wait! It'll be on most watches!!! Oh, that's just brilliant marketing right there! :)

Posted by: Young_Nastyman on July 18, 2008 at 11:31:24

Dawn Of The Dead and 300 were F*in Awesome!!
Watchmen will be even better

Posted by: TucsonRican on July 18, 2008 at 11:33:27

I will definatly be trying to pick one of those up............AT SAN DIEGO!!
