The Hollywood Reporter says that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen topped the international box office this weekend:

Playing in only two key foreign markets, Paramount's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" from director Michael Bay nonetheless premiered at No. 1 on the international circuit during the weekend, rolling up $20 million from 846 locations.

The sci-fi action sequel to "Transformers," Bay's 2007 smash that grossed $389 million overseas, opened at No. 1 in the U.K. ($14.1 million from 517 screens) and Japan ($5.8 million from 329 sites).

The explosive saga of shape-shifting robots, starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, outperformed the original's opening weekends by 71% in the U.K. and 13% in Japan, according to Paramount. "Revenge" is set to open worldwide Wednesday.

The Michael Bay-directed sequel opens in North America's conventional and IMAX theaters on Wednesday, June 24.

Why do they see it first and why call them 'shape-shifting', odd.

Because they are reporters and don't know the difference between "shape-shifting" and "transforming".

Even the fans of the first movie say ROTF is a terrible movie.

Remember money does not equal quality and even Paul Blart was the highest selling DVD 2 weeks in a row

@Horrible reviews even from fans
Show your source & proof of negative reviews from fans.

An your right, money doesn't equal quality but also bull *****ing from a unreliable source doesn't equal the truth.

"Even the fans of the first movie say ROTF is a terrible movie."

Actually, that's not true at all. Fans that've seen ROTF say that it's much better than the first one.

@horrible

Dude,do us all a favor... you and all your hating but buddies just shut up and give it a rest. This movie is going to smash box-office records something fierce REGARDLESS of whether it is good or not. You can't do anything about it. I can't do anything about it. Nobody can do anything about it. So if a part of enjoys at least the thrill of hugh robots kicking the ever-living gaskets out of each other, then sit back and enjoy your time at the flicks. If you are an artshow, indie film "conusor" (spell check-bite me) then avoid all theaters this month for I'm sure the long lines of people waiting to see this flick will sicken you.

I'm not Bay fan... but you better believe I;m not missing this eye-candy fest.

prime does die, but they bring him back with energon, since he is the only one who can kill the fallen, which he does...and theres a robot heaven, which is stupid, and sideswipe dies in the first five mins.....yeah

Not really surprised. This summer sucks for blockbuster movies, especially compared to last year. Star Trek and Up have been the only good movie. Hopefully, Transformers 2 will be good. I have no hopes for GIJoe.

ok i skipped reading the comments just in case if there's any spoilers..and i even disciplined myself avoiding every trailer teaser & commercials for this movie. although i accidently saw bits of clips for ah micro second. and i saw "just"...the superbowl commercial. the point of all this, is that i wanna save it all when i watch the movie..cause i already know it's gonna be freakin solid. and i'm sure there's others that are doing the same....or am i the only one.. if so... OH YEAH! :D

Posted by: redwing1 on June 22, 2009 at 02:23:03

ok, for those of you saying that this film is bad and haven't actually seen it, i did on saturday. i'm in japan, and i thought it was awesome, and i'm over 40, so that tells you that even though i'm i geek, i thought it was definitely worth it, and i'm planning on seeing it again

Posted by: OzzMosiz on June 22, 2009 at 02:50:47

Makes a nice change that the UK get the film before the US.

Ive seen it , Ima fan on transformers since the original comic and cartoon and I loved the first film, Im not a bay hater, but this film is sorley disapointing . It has far to much emphisis on comedy. So much so that sometimes it comes accross like a scary movie typ spoof. Plus it has the transfomers equivlient of Jar jar binks in the twin bots. Strangley most of the Autobots are hardley in it. sidewipe, Iron hide, Arcee and Rachet pob have 60 seconds screen time each. Soundwave is disapointing and Megatron is a wimp in this one, and far to much human screne time.
There are some good bits, great forest scence. ravage is good and the Starscream and Megatron interplay is good. But overall i think most people to be disapointed. Expect it to get ripped apart by critics

Posted by: ted on June 22, 2009 at 04:35:27

Im a fan and i thought it was better than number 1. And all the people i know who have seen it agree (FACT,)so there goes your theory HORRIBLE REVIEWS.

Posted by: Awesome on June 22, 2009 at 05:34:41

personally i thought this film was ****ing awesome, especially at the imax. seen it twice already :D i dont care what all the people who hate it say, they're *******s, simple as

Saw it las night been waiting so long for this movie.... And it was ok not as good as the first one, I felt it had lost something and certain charcters were annoying a certain charcters were very underused (Darth Maul syndrome) but overall it was good entertaing albeit a bit too long 7 out of 10

I guess this is a marmite film Love it or Hate it. I am someone who grew up with the series and I guess I do see the points there were moments (E.G. Devastors Balls) That were quite a cringe moment.
Also I do think there was a lack of robot screen time unless they were a major player in the film. Rachet and Ironhide lacked camera time whereas newbies like arcee seemed to be underused and unestablished.
I did like it, but I should have loved it, I got the great cartoon destroy the world plot, I got some great action scenes, but then I got them filled with scenes of comedy that were not needed.
Hey all going to have your own opinion, but I will say the Trailers never showed anything close to the comedy that was to be in the film and that just makes me think, they knew people were going for action not comedy.

Posted by: niall on June 22, 2009 at 06:43:06

this movie is great action packed def better than the first

Posted by: Mantronix on June 22, 2009 at 06:46:11
