Updates on DC Comics Movie Adaptations
Source:The Hollywood Reporter
July 20, 2009

The Hollywood Reporter has published an interesting article on the film projects that DC Comics has in the works. They mention previously-reported titles The Losers, Jonah Jex, The Green Lantern, and Red, but there's more on others we haven't heard much about lately. Here's a few excerpts:

This past fall, Warners quietly hired three of DC's biggest writers -- Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison and Marv Wolfman -- to act as consultants and writers for its superhero line of movies. The move involved taking back the reins on projects being handled by such producers as Charles Roven ("The Flash") and Akiva Goldsman ("Teen Titans").

The moves have begun to pay off. Johns worked up a new treatment for a "Flash" script, being written by Dan Mazeau; Johns will act in a producer capacity on the project, which has not attached a director.

The projects Morrison and Wolfman are working on are in the early stages at Warners, whose execs declined to comment.

The studio is taking pitches on sci-fi hero Adam Strange and the underwater-breathing hero "Aquaman," to be produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and his Appian Way shingle.

Also in the pipeline: "Bizarro Superman" being written by "Galaxy Quest" scribes David Howard and Robert Gordon; a sequel to "Constantine," with Goldsman and Erwin Stoff producing; two concurrent Green Arrow projects, an origin story and a prison-set one titled "Super Max"; and "Shazam," which was set up at New Line but has moved to Warners, with Pete Segal attached to direct.

They also mention a Superman Returns sequel, a third Batman film from Christopher Nolan and the Justice League movie, but there's no real news there. You can read the full article here.

First again. I love DC movies. TDK was awsome & Green Lantern with Ryan Reynolds should be fantastic.

Posted by: datsuperhero on July 20, 2009 at 01:28:37

Cant wait for another Superman, Hope they reboot, and is the superman bazarro a cartoon movie? I cant wait for Green Lantern also but I do hope they can make a live action Justice League. I rather see that than the Avengers. cause Justice league would kick the **** out if the Avengers!

Posted by: Forever on July 20, 2009 at 01:36:25

Well second then. lol

But this news is just awsome news.

Teen Titans is being written by the guys who wrote the comic book. That is just great. I like Teen Titans & am now excited about this. I'm also relieved as I trust these guys, who delivered the great comics. AWSOME!

The Flash, that's cool. I like Flash.

I really want to see a Aqua Man movie. What's DC's e-mail address? Let me throw you a pitch. Is a curve ball ok?

Everything else sounds amazing & I give DC my full fan support too. The Green Arrow movies epsecially interest me.

However there is one movie I don't like. A Superman Returns sequel? I didn't like Superman Returns. What happened to the proposed reboot? Technically a new reboot would only be the first Superman reboot, since "Returns" was supposed to be a sequel for the older movies 20 some years ago. That's weird, BTW.

I must say though, other than a TDK sequel & GL with RR, I'm looking forward to Teen Titans & Aqua Man the most. Good night for movie news for me.

Why oh why would you get Grant Morrison to do anything? His work on Batman and Final Crisis are easily some of the worst comics I have ever read. The fact that he is no longer writing the core Batman title is the only reason I'm reading it again.
I for one want to know what he's working on so I can know whether I should be worried about that project.

I love the comments I have read so far, Forever you like the other DC Comics previously shown films TDK, and the upcoming GL and RR films that are not even out yet. Second you said, that you don't like a Superman Returns sequel but, you are for the reboot that's understandeable. Did, you know Forever that Superman Returns was the most expensive comic book movie ever made, it won Saturn awards and was nominated for 10 Golden Globe Awards that should tell you something buddy. Superman Returns was the end of the previous films so technically a reboot makes no sense unless you are starting over with the Superman villains from the comic books. They, are definitely going to reboot Spiderman after what happened to Spiderman 3 in 2007. Superman: Man Of Steel should have Brainiac and Metallo starting off the new villain list of bad guys against the Man Of Steel. Supergirl his sex sweet cousin will make a return to the bigscreen she has been onscreen before played by the lovely Helen Slater. Megan Fox with her sexy behind needs to play Princess Diana aka Wonder Woman Why is she so vindictive of Wonder Woman. She, judged her by her flying that old invisible airplane back in the 1960's that was old news then. Today, Wonder Woman is modern age and she flies by herself like Superman, Superboy, Supergirl, Green Lantern and others. Forever, I want you to like Superman Returns for the story, and character dialogue the special effect and visual effects were amazing and breathtaking I was so in love with it all. Spiderman 3's special effects and visual effects were amazing too especially Sandman and the black alien symbiote that turned Spiderman into Symbiote Spiderman and Eddie Brock, Jr. into Venom.

Aww yeah! DC strikes back! Great news. Bug off haters!

It's so awesome that they're using such high profile comic book writers like Morrison and Johns. I met Grant Morrison last week (one of the nicest guys ever!) and he told me he was currently working on WE3 with warner bros. If done the way he described it, it sounds like it's going to be bad ass.

Adam Strange sounds like it has potential.

Posted by: Strange Hero on July 20, 2009 at 02:16:43

Ruined X-men? Grant Morrison added so many layers to the X-men franchise and managed to actually give it some death! Plus he made Emma Frost the bad ass we know her to be today!

Great to hear news on DC/WB moving forward with projects! While there's still a long time to go before anything substantial really gets into production, we do know that the Losers and Jonah Hex will be out next year, followed by GL the following year. If we're lucky, Nolan can be shooting a Batman threequel in 2011 for a 2012 release, and within the next few years as all of this is being done, seeds can be planted for the Flash, Aquaman (Leo!) and Wonder Woman, as well as the ineveitable return of the Last Son of Krypton. If 2000-2010 has been the Marvel decade, 2011-2020 could very be the DC decade, culminating in a live action Justice League pic in 2020. No that's wishful thinking!

Woo hoo, GREEN ARROW!!! He's been my favorite for years. Hope they do those movies right. Whoever's writing those scripts, please don't water down his character.

This is the best news I've read since Marvel gave us their details on their plans for the movies leading up to The Avengers. This must be the product of the big powwow DC and Warners had a few months back when they set out to develop a strategy for the comic adaptations.
The Golden age of Superhero movies that we have lived in for the last decade shall be even greater in the next. Can't wait for the 2010's.

DC COMICS ROCK!!!!

MARVEL SUCKS!!!

Spider-Man is a sissy.

Iron Man is a walking defibulator.

Professor X is a cripple.

Wolverine is a midget.

Hulk is dumb.

Daredevil is blind.

Magneto is old.

Beast has remnants of poo stuck to his asshairs.

And Gambit can't speak English without using subtitles.

Wow. What a bunch of "heroes" Marvel fans worship. HAHAHA!

Posted by: Atlantean on July 20, 2009 at 02:37:59

Guys, everyones missing the big news here.

There. Is. An. Aquaman. Movie. IN. THE. WORKS.

Awwwwww yeah, baby! Splish splash!

Posted by: Mister Wiener on July 20, 2009 at 02:40:25

Its about time. I'm tired of Marvel crapping out three sub-par movies a year while barely getting anything from DC.

Posted by: Long John Finklestein on July 20, 2009 at 02:42:43

Marvel reminds me of feces.

Posted by: the fan on July 20, 2009 at 02:50:08

why all the hate towards marvel. i love marvel and dc if you are a true comic fan you wouldnt hate on either cause Batman creator Bob Kane worked on Amazing Spider-Man in fact if you pay attention dc writers and marvel writers tend to work for each company.

Wow, shocker that M Bison is once again trying to show us all how "inelligent" he is!!! Dude's seriously a loser.

Posted by: Tourist on July 20, 2009 at 03:05:01

"...character dialogue the special effect and visual effects were amazing and breathtaking I was so in love with it all"

Loser? I'd use another word. Rhymes with maggot

This is great great news... At least Warner Bros has FINALLY REALIZED THE WISDOM in hiring the likes of Geoff Johns, Grant Morisson and Marv Wolfman to act as consultants , or maybe even as screenwriters for these DC Comics flicks. I'm sure the fanboys would love to see these writers finally taking a crack at a live-action superhero movie.

Posted by: Batmandrew on July 20, 2009 at 03:13:10

@the fan

Where did you hear Kane worked on Spider-man? I looked it up and could'nt find it.

@everyone

Im glad DC's getting these made. I don't really like Marvel at all. But if I have to choose something from Marvel, Hulk and Captain America (Steve Rogers) FTW! Spider-man can go suck his web shooter.
