Writers Hired for Brett Ratner's Youngblood
May 12, 2009
MTV's Splash Page spoke with comic creator Rob Liefeld, following his recent Twitter announcement that he was meeting with director Brett Ratner to discuss the live action movie based on Liefeld's Image Comics superteam Youngblood. The comic book launched the Image Comics line back in 1992 and has had a sporadic publishing schedule at various publishers in the 16 years since, but Liefeld seems genuinely enthusiastic about his creations being brought to the screen. (Sidenote: Liefeld also co-created Deadpool, who appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.)
Liefeld talked to Splash Page about the writers on the project, J.P. Lavin and Chad Damiani, who are also writing another film project based on one of Liefeld's creations, the Bryan Singer-produced Capeshooters.
You can read what Liefeld said about the hiring of the writers and some thoughts on the characters over on MTV Splash Page.

Rather see WildC.A.T.S. or Wetworks than Youngblood. I'll pass.

CGI POUCHES!!!!
Posted by: Bryce on May 12, 2009 at 14:55:39
They just better stick to the source material, I want to see cgi guns placed in closed fists, everyone better have huge shoulder pads, and I want to see absolutely no feet in frame.

No no no no NO NO NO! We don't need a mediocre movie directed by a hack director based on a sub-par comic book created by the Uwe Boll of the medium!! Of all the comics to make a movie of this one deserves it the LEAST!
Posted by: krypto on May 12, 2009 at 15:12:32
uwe boll would be perfect to direct this movie but brett ratner is also a good choice when it comes to rob liefelds vision:)

I think Liefeld should just draw the whole movie...
Posted by: Chujong on May 12, 2009 at 15:21:52
Meh...
However, count me in for a "WildC.A.T.S" movie!!
Posted by: Bleh on May 12, 2009 at 15:22:07
Youndblood? Seriously? Where will they possibly find actors so disproportionate and anitomically incorrect to come close to resembling Liefelds drawings?

If they want to kick off an Image movie franchise, they should start with a Team 7 movie. From there they could spin off several franchises. Stormwatch, Wildcats, Cyberforce, Gen 13, Deathblow, even a reboot of Spawn.
Posted by: sero on May 12, 2009 at 15:43:55
Maybe Ratner can make room for Cyclops in the this movie!!!
Posted by: Methos on May 12, 2009 at 15:45:09
At least it's not a Savage Dragon movie. Or God forbid a Gen 13 movie.

@rubsk1
I thought every comic at image had a character that looked like Wulvereen! LOL! But seriously, this is a "why bother" project. YoungBlood is an Avengers take off that never really flew. Even Wildcats or Savage Dragon would be a better summmer movie flick than this one.

and their costumes gonna be black leather, remember what Singer said, if it doesnt work just black leather on everything

Better off making an Alpha Flight movie, the chronicles of Jason Todd, Spider-ham, Howard the Duck sequel.
At least they got a weak director director to go with the weak creator - that should count for something.

hey rob and brett...the 90's called and said that this idea sucked then so it sucks now and it also said FOR THE LOVE OF GAWD WHEN IS ENOUGH GONNA BE ENOUGH...and maybe they will make multiple films with different gold embossed actors and limited run covers to the dvd with the versions so you have to buy all 13 of them and then they wont be worth anything at all and you'll have to get your job at marvel comics back

most of you named any other image title besides this one taht you want to see hit the screen.. So if they said they were making a Wetworks movie, would you complain and say YoungBlood is a better idea?
I'd like to see this and unlike most fanboy retards I dont expect to look like the drawings or copy the story exactly like the book because its not the book! It's a movie, different medium... jerks.

Hopefully it's better than Liefeld's ankles! If you're a true comic fan, you'll know what I mean!

Oh great, this is the best they can give us from Image. C'mon. Yeah he did alright drawing X-Force, but when he did Youngblood all their legs and sometimes their arms were three times the siz of the rest of their bodies.
I want to see Gen13 or Wild C.A.T.S. , Jim Lee must have authority though, so it doesn't look too corny.

Liefeld is the worst "creator" of all time. All deadpool is is spiderman with a gun and swords. All his characters are just garbage and as retarded as they look in print they'll look even dumber in real life. I wonder if they'll cover up the feet as much as possible just like Rob's S--tastic "art" did

This news is pretty funny. If there ever was a comic book film that Ratner was suited to, it's this one. Liefeld is a bad artist and an even sh**tier writer... crap like Youngblood fits Ratner to a "T."

There is an error in this article. He didn't create Deadpool. He made a Marvel version of Deathstroke. Don't give Rob Liefeld any credit for creativity.

@mojojackson...you do know that most of the characters you named are not IMAGE comics, right? they all were at one time, but not now.
@Methos...it looked like you said that SAVAGE DRAGON was less deserving of a movie than YOUNGBLOOD...thats just crazy talk! SAVAGE DRAGON is a great comic, and could make a great movie. and it has a creator who cares enough to not let it get destroyed by hollywood.

How can you shoot an entire movie without showing anyone's feet?
