Warner Bros. Pictures has set a November 20, 2009 release date for the Guy Ritchie-directed Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong and Kelly Reilly.
In the thriller, Downey Jr. brings the legendary detective to life as he has never been portrayed before. Jude Law stars as Holmes' trusted colleague, Watson, a doctor and war veteran who is a formidable ally for Sherlock Holmes. Rachel McAdams stars as Irene Adler, the only woman ever to have bested Holmes and who has maintained a tempestuous relationship with the detective. Mark Strong stars as their mysterious new adversary, Blackwood. Kelly Reilly will play Watson's love interest, Mary.
The only other movie scheduled for that week before Thanksgiving next year is Sony's animated sci-fi tale Planet 51, voiced by Dwayne Johnson, Jessica Biel, Justin Long, Seann William Scott, Gary Oldman and John Cleese.

What, no Moriarty???
I would like to know more about the story. I doubt this movie will be faithful to the books but it could still be good.

What the hell? Why so long? They're already filming. It shouldn't take over a year to complete.

I think this is going to be as cool as my Superman Returns

Ah yes, 2009. Part of the plan. The plan to make us forget that in 2009 DC has no movies. Watchmen doesn't count dudes. Why? Watchmen isn't mainstream. So *Warners* (DC's parent) has Watchmen, Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes. Smart plan really. Should work.

The R-dale Cowboy
What, no Moriarty???
Agreed, but they probably thinks its too soon to bring out Holmes' main villian. There probably hope to turn it into a franchise and bring him out later. AS FOR Bryan Singer, you should be working on a GOOD Superman script and hope the fans forget about that dump you took that was Superman Returns!

Being a big fan of the books when I was younger, I'm looking forward to this. Holmes is a superhero.... the Batman of his generation without the gadgets. I have a feeling if any of these fan boys actually read a book without pictures they wouldn't be questioning this. Moriarty will appear in any sequels, I would assume if not a teaser at the end of the film. I think this maybe more of like an origin story. In short I say bring it on.

Why is this on superherohype? Sherlock Holmes?
Posted by: Steviepoo on October 17, 2008 at 12:55:31
Wait, I thought SHH! was made to focus on superhero/comic book related movies? Sherlock Holmes is neither, so why is SHH! going crazy over it?

The reason its on Superherohype.com is because Sherlock Holmes was also portrayed in a series of comic books as well...

Hmmmmm. Are we all forgetting that Guy Ritchie is a Brit Gangster style director???? Have any of you see any of his last few films? I am worried this will be another Lock, Snatch and Revolve!
However my heart goes out to him. If Madonna wanted to snatch my kids I would be in pretty bad state. Good luck Guy with that! Families more important that a film.
I said my Peace.

Robert Downey Jr. is a talented actor who is experiecing a well-deserved successful comeback. Downey Jr. is quite a eccentric character and I think he`ll be great as Sherlock Holmes. As for Guy Ritchie ,he`s a director who hasn`t gotten enough credit for being a good one since his tenure as a emasculated, whipped and de-powered husband of Madonna. Sherlock Holmes should be a much-needed return to form for Ritchie.2009 will be another good year for movies.

I wait possibly 9 months for them to make this fuggin movie, I wrote emails and faxes to all the major studios and Stan Lee ' Please' - I say ' Make Sherlock Holmes the Movie I am his number one fan!'. Obviously someone was listening! Only hope they don't set it in crappy england in the old days!

Sherlock Holmes isn't seen as a superhero, and almost every famous person and character ever to exist has appeared in comic book form, using that as justification means that we should be seeing every little tabloid rag's story about Madonna, since she's been in comic books, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, all those people as well. Family Guy, the Simpsons, Power Rangers, everything Stephen King. He-Man, every toyline from the 80's.
There's no reason for them to be reporting on this on this page, except for that they want to, and it's a free service, so get over it.
