Update: Josh Brolin is Jonah Hex?
October 9, 2008
Hollywood Elsewhere reports that Josh Brolin, who can be seen in next week's W., has signed on to star in Warner Bros. Pictures' Jonah Hex. This has yet to be confirmed by the studio, so stay tuned.
From Crank writers/directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the film is based on the DC Comics title in which Hex, known for having the right side of his face disfigured and wearing a Confederate army uniform, was a rough-and-tumble gunslinger and part-time bounty hunter whose adventures always ended in blood.
"Jonah Hex," created by by writer John Albano and artist Tony DeZuniga, first appeared in the early 1970s in the issues of "All-Star Western" before graduating to his own series in 1977 that ran for about 10 years. A new series was launched in 2005. The character also had a run in the 1990s that combined the Western genre with supernatural elements.
UPDATE: Variety has confirmed the casting.

Sounds awesome although he already played a badass cowboy in No Country. I'm stoked.

Damn that's going to be a slick choice

The handle says it all - very good decision if indeed it's legit, signed, sealed and delivered.
I'm more worried about the script and the directors though. Crank was fun but forgettable. Let's hope they make a good job adapting it.

it seems like after how superhero movies have helped the careers of actors like RDJ and Bale with the mega-successes of Iron Man and TDK, it's in vogue now for mainstream actors to star in comic book movies.
but i'm not complaining. people who's against the idea of Josh Brolin playing jonah hex have no idea how bad-ass he is in movies like No Country For Old Men and American Gangster.

Great news. Brolin is one of the best actor around and Jonah should be a funny character to portray. Too bad for him for the long make-up sessions

Good choice........I think it'll fit him. I wish them all good luck. JH has been one of my favourite cowboys after The Man With No Name. I hope this'll work!

I hope to see him jump over burning cars while appealing to the modern demographics while he promotes something about nuclear disarmament.
Because it would be un-fun to see an entertaining movie about a cowboy gutting zombies. It must have a message, right?

I can dig it. They better keep the uniform though.

This is great news! Josh Brolin is awesome casting! (Although I would have loved Tom Jane) I think it'd be so cool if they did sequels with him aging. So eventually we get to see him really old and grizzled like in that episode of Batman TAS. Thats something that hasn't been done! Each movie have the same actor, just at a different stage of his life...

If true this is great news

Man, there are so many Tom Jane groupies running around these days. You pricks act as
if the guy was Al pachino or Jack Nicholson.
Stop sucking him off already! Its obvious that
that alot of filmmakers don't think much of him or he'd be working more often, so stop
making love to Tom Jane.
P.S.
And please stop mentioning Johnny Depp, too.
Great actor, but he doesn't fit every role.
