Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that Hancock will hit DVD and Blu-ray Disc on November 25th:

Two-time Academy Award® nominee Will Smith (Best Actor: Ali, 2002; The Pursuit of Happyness, 2007) is not your average superhero in the summer blockbuster Hancock, debuting on DVD, Blu-ray™ High-Def and PSP™ November 25 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE). The more than $560 million worldwide grossing film also stars Oscar® winner Charlize Theron (Best Actress, Monster, 2004) and Jason Bateman (Juno, TV's "Arrested Development") in the action-packed comedy about an edgy, sarcastic and hard-living superhero (Smith) who has fallen out of favor with the public. The must-have gift for the holiday season, Hancock is priced at $28.96 for the single disc Theatrical or Unrated Edition DVD, $34.95 for the Two-Disc Unrated Special Edition DVD, $39.95 for the Blu-ray High-Def with Digital Copy and $24.94 for PSP.

The single disc DVD will be available in theatrical and unrated editions. Both versions contain extensive bonus materials including five featurettes, which take viewers "backstage" on Hancock. Included are the behind-the-scenes documentary Superhumans: The Making of Hancock; Seeing the Future takes eight scenes from the actual film footage or B-roll footage and shows side by side comparisons of the conception during the pre-visualization creation; the special effects are highlighted in Building a Better Hero; Bumps and Bruises is a breakdown of action sequences in the film; and director Peter Berg is interviewed for Mere Mortals: Behind the Scenes with "Dirty Pete."

The Two-Disc Unrated Special Edition DVD features both the theatrical and unrated editions of the film and all the bonus materials from the single disc versions, plus a bonus digital copy of the film, which allows consumers to download a digital copy of the film to play on their PC or PSP (PlayStation® Portable) System, and two additional featurettes. The added featurettes are Home Life, which shows via time lapse photography the building of the homes and buildings used in the film; and Suiting Up, a featurette on the film’s costume design.

The bonus features for the Blu-ray High-Def edition includes all the material from the single and Two-Disc DVDs, plus BD-Live functionality and the Blu-ray exclusive On-Set Visual Diary, a BonusView picture-in-picture track with behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the cast, filmmakers and crew. The second DVD disc contains a digital copy of the film which consumers can download to play on their PC or PSP (PlayStation Portable) System.

Synopsis:

Academy Award® nominee Will Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness) stars in this action-packed comedy as Hancock, a sarcastic hard-living and misunderstood superhero who has fallen out of favor with the public. When Hancock grudgingly agrees to an extreme makeover from idealistic publicist Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman, Juno), his life and reputation rise from the ashes and all seems right again – until he meets a woman (2003 Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron, Actress in a Leading Role, Monster) with similar powers to his and the key to his secret past.

Hancock was directed by Peter Berg and written by Vy Vincent Ngo and Vince Gilligan. The film was executive produced by Ian Bryce, Jonathan Mostow and Richard Saperstein; produced by Akiva Goldsman, Michael Mann, Will Smith, and James Lassiter.

first...

Posted by: Spoiler on September 1, 2008 at 02:40:02

First?! F**king wasted a post you dumb ****. Say some thing important. Like; Will Smith's portrayal of a superhero not only extended Smith's acting of the SciFi realm to comic books, but he helped prove that actors can portray superheros and still put in a great acting performance.

No wonder our generation is seen as a bunch of idiots. People that say first should not be allowed to reproduce. They are as much a waste to society as their post is.

directors cut?

Posted by: Mr.Manny on September 1, 2008 at 03:46:46

I think that people who b**ch about people who post first should not be allowed to reproduce either, or should people who actually thought that Will Smith was believable in Hancock. That movie was horrible and the producers should be shot for trying to set up a sequel.

I really dug the first half of Hancock. As soon as they tried to make an epic romance it dismantled itself *Spoiler* How about flashbacks showing us his past? Where was the footage of him first revealing himself to the public? Why does Charlize drag him in the middle of a city to have a fight? Isn't she trying to keep her abilities a secret?

Yeah, like I said, the first half was awesome

Prequel please!

From everything I've heard....this movie blew. Big time. I could tell from the dumb as s**t trailer...and so many reviews, opinions and posts confirmed it. I avoided this thing like The Plague! And there not even get me on the rental...I won't even waste my time.

30 bucks for the single disc? Incredible Hulk dvd versions up near $40? Whats up with dvd prices?

Posted by: Ayrton Carson on September 1, 2008 at 05:24:37

Those are suggested retail prices only. Iron Man's is 40 for the Blu-Ray and 34.99 for the regular DVD set but places like Best Buy and Amazon are selling the pre orders for 22.99 for the Blu-Ray and 16.99 for the regular set.

Posted by: Ayrton Carson on September 1, 2008 at 05:27:58

Sorry- I screwed up my prices. Iron man is pre ordering for 27 for the Blu ray and 22 for the 2 disc set. The regular 1 dvd set is 16.

how about a director's cut or an unrated bluray dvd? the movie tried to hard to be a R rating, with the swearing and heavy drinking.

haha, man I love messing with people of a lesser intellect, one little five letter word and you go into a little fit in your parents basement. You speak of reproducing when you should know you will not be able to impregnate your right hand, but you just keep trying...

"Hancock will arrive as a single standard DVD ($28.96)"

Wow....just ridiculous

Posted by: Nerf Herder on September 1, 2008 at 10:07:18

I'd rather buy Kung Fu Panda on Blu Ray than Hancock. Then they left me hanging on the Panda's release date.

Posted by: Jay on September 1, 2008 at 10:24:35

FAKE- This wasn't a superhero this was racism mixed with scientology for one and a half hour.

Posted by: buck on September 1, 2008 at 10:34:29

Forget Han-cock. If you want to see a great alternative superhero movie with a unique twist, see my movie, THE GUARDIANS. Umm, that's if I manage to sell my spec script and it actually gets made, that is. But trust me it ROCKS!

Sometimes I read the comments and feel the film 'Idiocracy' has a lot of possibility in the impending future.

It starts with the firsters... and it increasingly has increased with various posts.

P.S. The film was great in the first half, boring in the second, it's a shame. I don't predict a great set of DVD sales in MY opinion.

Posted by: Archangel on September 1, 2008 at 11:34:41

They should have released a Director's Cut disc because a lot was cut from the theatrical release from what I seen from the movie trailers. But the the only thing that pissed me off in the movie was putting Will Smith in that dumb ass X-Men leather coverall!!!

Posted by: Harish on September 1, 2008 at 11:51:22

^ Makes me wonder if Wolverine will get a chance to don his original costume in his spin-off films...

But yeah, it wasn't a great look for the film, glad he poked fun of it for me.

Posted by: IAMLEGEND247 on September 1, 2008 at 13:02:03

erm...spoiler you should get anger management.calling him a dumb **** wont help if he wants to say that hes first he can he can say what he wants.and yeah the first half of the movie was cool but(spoiler)but the whole we were once together and you got hit on the head was kinda stupid.but still a great movie

Failure

Posted by: jrobert on September 1, 2008 at 14:14:14

Honestly I would say that Hancock was a average movie for Will Smith.Which is still saying something as it was still very much a typical Will Smith summer blockbuster.

Peter Berg is a mediocre director at best(although Friday Night Lights was very good)
and while Hancock was a interesting concept on paper,it clearly was out of it`s depth among the professionals of this year like Iron Man,The Incredible Hulk,Hell Boy 2 and The Dark Knight(and the Punisher:War Zone and The Spirit this December).

Plus there was no source material to draw from,so the movie felt like it was tryig to explore themes with no real basis for those themes.

A lot of the major studios need to realize that the audiences aren`t dumb, the people know a attempt to capitalize on a successful formula when they see it.

I love Will Smith as a actor but Hancock was just such a unoriginal movie on so many levels and with Marvel and DC constantly raising the bar for super hero movies that in the words of John Goodman from 1990`s Arachnophobia ''there`s no room in this game for amateurs''.

And despite it `s blockbuster budget that`s what Hancock was-amateurish.
