Platinum Studios, Inc., an entertainment company that controls an international library of more than 5,600 comic book characters which it adapts, produces and licenses for all forms of media, in conjunction with Top Cow Productions, an entertainment company specializing in building intellectual properties through comic book and graphic novel publication, and Arclight Films, today announced that director Michael Rymer, who helped reimagine TV's "Battlestar Galactica," is set to direct and co-produce Witchblade, an in-development feature film based on the best-selling action fantasy thriller comic book from Top Cow which has sold over 100 million units worldwide since its #1 debut in 1995.

Rymer is currently filming the series finale of "Battlestar Galactica" and recently wrapped production on the 2-hour series pilot for "Revolution" for NBC Universal Media Studios and the SCI FI Channel. The exact story line and nature of the script is being kept under wraps but will stay true to the "Witchblade" mythology which centers around an ornate, jewel-encrusted gauntlet that gives superpowers to the wearer, a chosen female bearer of each generation, who possesses it.

"Michael Rymer is one of those creative forces who can blend myth, legend, iconic visuals and dramatic story into edge-of-your-seat action thrillers," said Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, Chairman and CEO of Platinum Studios. "I believe that Michael's instincts with this character and world are spot on."

"'Witchblade' is an opportunity to break some new ground – to approach a comic book adaptation in a very different way," said Michael Rymer. "While I am excited by the opportunity, I am intensely protective of the fans' expectation of this comic-to-film adaptation."

In addition to Rymer, Gary Hamilton, CEO of Arclight Films, Nigel Odell, head of Arclight's production operations, Platinum Studios' Rosenberg and Steve Squillante of Havenwood Media are all set to produce. Top Cow's CEO Marc Silvestri and President Matt Hawkins would serve as executive producers as would Platinum Studios' Rich Marincic. Former Universal Pictures senior executive Randy Greenberg of The Greenberg Group, would also executive produce.

Didn't they have a lame TNT series like 10 years ago that lasted for like 4 episodes?

Dear Michael Rymer,

Please please please don't eff this up like every other damn comic movie with a female lead.

Hearts,

A lady comic fan sick of seeing her favorites watered down.

She needs to be naked the whole time and have gigantic boobies for people to care. That's what was the problem with the series she was wearing a burka the whole time and worse yet she was flat chested. Unless they get a female lead who has Russ Meyer proportions and is fully naked for most of the movie, then I refuse to see this movie due to non-interest. Whose with me! Comeon if we ban together we can do this! Viva La Big Boobies! Quick someone start a petition!

Whoever's posting these articles needs to learn how to close their bold tags. Haha.

I'm with you, Spider-ham! lol :P

It's about time they confirmed what everyone already knew! I think Michael will surprise us though. If it is half as good as his BSG miniseries then we are in good hands.

Cementhead - one word: wow. I hope you get that excited the first time you see a naked woman. Because clearly, outside of your computer monitor, that's not happened for you yet.

Welcome to the Retard Registration Act. ****ing tool.

And Not Dead Yet, get a ****ing life. There is no glory in your first "first," and there is no glory in doing it again. There is, however, much to mock in your fail. Which I always enjoy. Cheers, dumbass.

Actually the tv was rather good. It failed as a esult of scxheduling and star yancy butler falling into alcoholism. It never recovered. I wonder if she did?

Posted by: Witchblade Fan on July 22, 2008 at 08:44:43

The show was alright, coming to DVD on the 29, but the orgin is THE BEEP! They must stick with it to a tee for this movie to suceed.

Zowies!!

Posted by: Moviefan on July 22, 2008 at 08:56:56

How are they going to do this? The Witchblade comics had a lot of skin showing (especially the anime). I cant see this being a mainstream PG-13 movie

Posted by: Witchblade Fan on July 22, 2008 at 09:05:04

They might make it like Wanted very gritty with nudity.

Kill All Firsters
man you are sad, every time i read comments on up comming movies you are there *****in bout the people who say first without contribution on the topic so you are just as bad as them you fool

The first season of the TNT version of Witchblade was very good.It comes on DVD the end of this month,by the way.The second season was terrible, dunno if it had alot to do with Yancy Butler and her drinking issues. But it only lasted two season...season one being the best!

Let's hope Rymer follows the trend of making the comic book movies as close to the original comic book as possible!
The Witchblade series had potensial, but crumbled in the attemt to save money of FX and such! It needs to be R-rated, at least, to be close to successful, I think!
But, hell!! I'll give it a chance!

Posted by: JoJo on July 22, 2008 at 12:16:47

Honestly, who really cares about Witchblade?
I don't understand how this character is popular.
Really corny. But...to each his/her own...

RIP Michael Turner. I hope they honor you well by making a good movie. You will be missed.

Posted by: Superion on July 22, 2008 at 15:10:54

I can't wait, I love Witchblade. I hope this movie turns out good.

Posted by: jafo on July 22, 2008 at 16:07:12

firsters are losers. cementhead is an appropriate name.

why can't you losers go away? why can't superherohype block these dorks?

Posted by: RIP Michael Turner, you will be missed on July 22, 2008 at 19:47:48

Please Please, don't let michael tuner down (RIP), he was the co-creator and the genius penciler of the first issues of the witchblade. Hope Marc Silvestri (Co-Creator, top cow ceo) could come up with something that could reach the level of the dark knight or xmen when it comes to the quality of movies that WB or Fox can produce, in memory of M. Turner's artistry. If not..... I think it is much better that they sell TopCow to Warner Bros/DC, because the witchblade TV series realllllly sucked literally with all that weird drama and lame action scenes.

Posted by: Cementhead.com on July 23, 2008 at 00:13:33

jafo : you suck balls thats al i have to say. and that was my 1st time posting at 1st ever so you my good man can blow me.;)

Posted by: Terry on July 23, 2008 at 04:18:11

Couldn't they give this to the guy who did "Wanted"? He already proved he can handle Special effects with "Nightwatch".

"The Dark Knight" has changed everything... the bar has truly been raised. Get the guy that did "One Hour Photo" and who would've done "The Wolf Man" remake (until studio heads butted heads with him).
