Nominations for the 2008 MTV Movie Awards
Source:ComingSoon.net
May 6, 2008

ComingSoon.net has posted the nominations for the 2008 MTV Movie Awards and both Transformers and Spider-Man 3 received multiple nods. And while we love that a movie like Iron Man got a nomination, "Best Summer Movie So Far" has got to be the dumbest category yet (maybe rename it "Best May 2008 Movie"?).

Check out the full press release here.

I am sick of hearing about S-M 3 and Transformers.
Totally over-rated.

Posted by: relaxandtakenotes on May 6, 2008 at 10:52:40

first. that is a dumb category

Posted by: bd on May 6, 2008 at 10:54:39

saying first is silly. saying it when your not makes you look retarted.

Posted by: also first on May 6, 2008 at 10:55:24

really. that category is pointless. it's like giving out awards in a thread for being first "so far"...

Posted by: Harvey on May 6, 2008 at 10:56:13

Transformers deserves recognition, stupid 'comedy' aside. Not Spider-Man though. It was such a shame.

Posted by: also first on May 6, 2008 at 10:56:38

you know what else makes you look retarted?...

Transformers rocked. Spiderman 3 was one of the worst superhero movies I have ever had the displeasure to watch.

Iron Man I can only attach one word to it 'awesome.'

Posted by: Highrollin on May 6, 2008 at 10:59:35

Neither of those films are worth $h!t.

Posted by: juvi212 on May 6, 2008 at 11:01:42

yea transformers and spider man 3 are kind of old news now i'm suprise they got nominated this late after their release

I like Spiderman 3 cause Venom was in it and the Sandman would turn into sand and flood the city. I like family movies which is why I like Marvel movies cause they appeal to families. Movies like Batman are too dark for me and Death Ledger scares me as the joker.

Posted by: Darknightwatchmen on May 6, 2008 at 11:10:24

Death Ledger!!! LMAO
Ouch!!!
I love exclaimation marks!!!

Spider-Man 3 was entertaining.I loved how he looked in the black suit, sandman was awesome, new goblin sucked,he should've worn the green goblin outfit & sayed a bad guy.Venom was totally robbed though.they should've saved him for a seperate movie.it's like they tried to cram in too much for one move, imho.

Is it 2007 again?

Posted by: Dave on May 6, 2008 at 11:48:58

Honestly, I don't understand why people hate on SM3 so much...It WASN'T that bad of a movie! Sure, it was a little disappointing, but it's still FAR from being the worst superhero movie out there; I'd even say it's among the better.

Posted by: Archangel on May 6, 2008 at 11:51:56

Spider-Man 3 sucked!!! It could have been so much better if they did not make it into a chick flick with the Peter/Mary Jane story. Venom as the major villain could have held this movie on his own too. Terrible they did not show him until towards the end of the movie. Definitely the worst out of the three. Transformers was much better despite the reinvention of autobots and decepticons.

Posted by: Harish on May 6, 2008 at 12:03:03

I consider Spider-Man 3 only to be bad AGAINST the first two. Whilst it wasn't great, it wasn't bad compared to the large catalogue of already released superhero films. It is a little annoying that people jump on the bandwagon, and go on to blame the director like it was Raimi's fault that Sony pressured him into adding Venom. Spider-Man is easily better in comparison to other superhero films. It's just one of the most disappointing releases ever.

I agree with mike it does seem that they tried to cram way too much into one movie. The beauty of the first 2 films was the incredible story that it told, Personally I took more interest in Peter Paker than I did the Spider man the super hero.

By the 3rd film I was all special effects'd out, and was looking for something more. It was not by any means a bad movie, it just fell short of the first two.

If you want to talk about bad super hero movies there are a whole rack of them that should be addressed before SM3 comes out of anyones mouth ( Superman Returns, The Hulk, Dare Devil, Elektra, Blade 3, The Punisher....)

Next year should be interesting with iron man, indiana jones and batman all to be nominated for best hero for sure.

Posted by: Snorkllz on May 6, 2008 at 12:17:30

Oh, and lets not forget the worst CAT WOMAN!!!

Posted by: BOB C on May 6, 2008 at 12:24:22

Morons spiderman in itself will always the MaryJane/Peter Parker angle, why don't you read the comics first before you judge it a chick flick, and as far as calling it worst superhero movie ever made, I'm guessing you must of loved The hulk (with eric Bana) and daredevil, and there are a few out there, I'm greatful Raimi keps getting involed, Tho it asn't a great movie as you say, it sure rake up enough money for movie to do more movie's like Iron Man and ithers down the line. so give it some credit.$151.4 is not a bad opening.

Posted by: kylewooosh on May 6, 2008 at 12:35:36

i have read alot of the spider-man comics back in my day and all i have to say is alot and i mean alot of those comic's featured more than 1 or 2 villians at a time in one book. so when i saw Spider-man 3 i was expectiing more villians in one movie. its a given. i was just wanted to pointed that out. i usually dont post on this website but i check it daily. i like reading what people have to say and most of the time their judgement is wrong.

Posted by: Snorkllz on May 6, 2008 at 12:50:48

kylewoosh Welcome, While that may be true of the comics, you have to consider the generation gaps, everyone might not know who these villians are, you can't just assume everyone has followed comics and know the backgrounds and origins of these people.

Not saying your wrong, but my thing is, if your going to do it, and pull it off then you need to have one amazing story to justify the use of 3 villians.

What was the purpose of putting the sandman in that movie? I mean really? Again wasn't a bad movie, just wasn't a GREAT! one

Posted by: Alfonso on May 6, 2008 at 12:58:56

two questions: Why the hell nominate transformers and spider-man3 this late?
why create a VERY lame category for Iron Man?
probably to attract more viewers is the only answer i can come up with.

Posted by: Rb on May 6, 2008 at 13:00:00

Why Spider-Man 3?

Posted by: adamant877 on May 6, 2008 at 13:00:17

I disagree with you Snorkllz... The problem with Spider-Man 3 wasn't Sandman, that was probably the only thing redeamable about the picture. The biggest upset was not using the Lizard, as Raimi initially intended. It was throwing Venom in as a week side story villian. If the producers at Columbia hadn't twisted his arm to the breaking point, this could have been the best installment of the three. Instead we got a slapstick comedy treatment on an otherwise well rounded script.
