SDCC: The Smallville Panel!
July 27, 2009
Superhero Hype! unfortunately was unable to attend the CW's panel for "Smallville" at the San Diego Comic-Con on Sunday, but the lovely Kristen at E! Online has posted a great rundown of the footage show from Season 9, what was said during the panel and what was learned in the press room. Here's the footage rundown:
* "The world's greatest hero has risen" appears on screen along with the Superman logo.
* A montage of Clark on his path to becoming a hero. "And he is not alone," says the preview. Followed by shots of each Justice League member who has fought with him: Aquaman, Black Canary, Impulse, Cyborg, Zatanna, Martian Manhunter, Supergirl, Green Arrow, the Legion and Watchtower. Studio reps confirm to us that Laura Vandervoort is not returning to the show, despite her appearance in the preview.
* The introduction of Zod, who's brought several friends with him (more on that below). He's seen fighting toe-to-toe with Tess.
* Lois is seen fighting in the future.
* Chloe (Allison Mack) relies on the protection of a gun this season.
* Brian Austin Green's Metallo has a very sinister look to him. He's seen with the Kryptonite power source on his chest, iconic for the Metallo character.
* There is a hot and steamy love scene between Lois and Clark. Heavy petting and make-out sesh included.
* For a split second it seems that Lex has appeared on screen, but it could be our imagination.
* Clark has a nifty new super suit. It's all black, no spandex, with the silver Superman logo on the front and a long black trench coat that doubles as a cape.
You can check out more here! Let's hope the CW officially brings this footage online!

Ironic? Hasn't Metallo always had a piece of kryptonite in his chest?

I bet we will probably get 1 fight scene out of the whole season that only lasts 30 seconds or less like the the last season. We want to see more action not see the characters deal with the same problem over and over like every other episode.

All black suit with black trench coat?
Wow, that's original.

This season's sounding pretty sweet...hope it's good.

Iconic is not the same word as ironic, no matter how many people can't correctly define the latter.

They got Neo from the Matrix as Superman?
Posted by: Kal on July 27, 2009 at 12:09:55
Ugh I knew they'd pull some crap like a trenchcoat as a sorry excuse for a costume.

oh HELL YES!!!!
I was hoping theyd give him the black suit. So cant wait, smallville is my fav show next to the late Sarah Connor Chronicles. Im so glad they are bringing the show more close to the comics, and i hope they do either the metropolis spin off or a Superman movie with Tom Welling as supes.
Tom Welling will always be my generations Superman.

@ all2easy: it says "iconic", not "ironic"
Posted by: AT LAST A SUIT!! on July 27, 2009 at 12:17:00
WOW!!! At least he's wearing an early version of it! Who know's maybe this is what is necessary to update Superman. Can't wait for the premiere. I hated how season 8 ended but maybe we are supposed to understand somehow that Doomsday wasn't strong enough to kill Clark yet. And somehow that other Jimmy Olsen was an inspiration to that other Jimmy Olsen. Whatever, at least we'll be seeing more action than the frustrating Superman Returns movie.
One last thing I'd like to add is that although i don't fault Brandon Routh (lack of action and lines) I still want to see Tom Welling as Superman, but I can understand why he doesn't want to do it as it can outcast him for other roles. Kudos for having Green Arrow full scale since WB don't want us to have Bruce on the small screen (I respectfully understand).
Ok just one more: Now that WB is giving us some DC characters how about PLASTIC MAN on the show? That will raise the ratings to the roof!!!! He can be a great spinoff that I would watch for sure!!!
So sue me, I got another one: Bring Lana back so you guys can take that stupid kryptonite power she has! It will take the nasty taste you guys left us with and all will be forgiven!

What I want to know - is if Lois went into the future - does she see Superman? And if so... will we be presented with glimpses of that future where Welling is wearing blue and red?
Let's hope so.

"Iconic" is what was written. Smallville will be amazing this season. Zod and having superpowered beings to fight from Kandor will be great.

Iconic :P

"...and a long black trench coat that doubles as a cape."
And then I hear he'll be upgrading to a snazzy set of blue underoos and a dark red 100% cotten towel that triples as a cape, beach blanket, and picnic table cover. Talk about flexible!!!

They better not ruin Metallo!! I hated that they ruined Parasite and killed Livewire? I wanted to believe she didn't die!!
Smallville's not perfect but I'll take my weekly dose over Superman Returns anyday!!

@ Does not compute
No, not the bright colors he's been seen wearing all the time. Maybe extremely darker shades of the iconic colors. Like maybe values 8, 8, 45 for blue and maybe 45, 4, 4 for red. Those are practically black, but with some light a hint of those may appear.
But whatever. Black and silver Raiders Superman is what they chose. Like how they chose black suits for X-men.

"Iconic is not the same word as ironic, no matter how many people can't correctly define the latter." Haha, Aerolithe_Lion you are brilliant, and welcome in my city for beers anytime. And I'm definitely not being sarcastic, it's great to find someone who a) can spell and b) knows irony.
Posted by: THIS BETTER BE GOOD on July 27, 2009 at 12:27:04
They better not mess this up. And I like the Plastic Man idea (possibly an origin), that can work. I wouldn't mind seeing Lobo either or before he became Lobo, which seems to be every movie or tv show's strategy nowadays.

Okay, you're right. I guess maybe it can work. Lana coming back with her powers and beating Lois to a pulp. I don't see it unless Lois inherit some sort of powers. Maybe Tess and Black Canary can join in while the Justice Boys can enjoy the action eating popcorn and drinking Kool Aid.

I like everything but the Supersuit would've been better if it was blue and not black.
Posted by: Darkseid on July 27, 2009 at 12:37:51
I figured the suit might be different but i wasn't expecting them to go with the black and silver one. I always wondered how they were going to address his face when fully taking on the role as superman since he doesn't wear glasses. I was kind of disappointed with doomsday. I wouldn't mind them bringing him back so they can actually have a big brawl instead of the way they disposed of him
