Miller and Jackson on The Spirit
November 2, 2008
The Spirit director Frank Miller and star Samuel L. Jackson, who plays The Octopus, talked to the Los Angeles Times about the Christmas Day release. Here are several clips about the fighting in the film:
The biggest differences between "The Spirit" and "Sin City" or "300" are the romances and the cartoon combat; the Spirit and Octopus both have a sort of Wile E. Coyote invincibility by the time they duke it out and they whack each other with cinder blocks, spanner wrenches and even a toilet with a jolly unreality that makes the film seem something like "The Mask" meets "Green Hornet." Jackson said it was a giddy time on the set filming the escalating mayhem.
"There are some great scenes where we just go at it," Jackson said, although he added that Miller found a way to keep the loopy universe true to itself. "Frank knew what he wanted to do. You look at this movie and you can tell it's his. Nobody else would make this movie this way, which is why he's doing movies now."

EmilyEmily There you are again sexy don't judge Spirit just yet, this will be like a cross between Sin City and 300. Samuel L. Jackson is a brilliant African American actor. I saw him at the end of Ironman as Nick Fury and I think we will see him in The Avengers movie in the nest few years or so. Emilyyyyyyy!!!! talk to me okay I likeeeeeeeee Youuuuuuuuu !!! Frank Miller and Robert Rodguiguez are brilliant directors I enjoyed Sin City with some popular faces. Bruce Willis, Elijah Wood, Mickey Rourke, Brittany Murphy, Alexis Bledel, Devon Aoki, Rosario Dawson, Nick Stahl,Jessica Alba, Powers Boothe, and Clive Owen. 300 was fantastic with Gerard Butler and Lena Headley.

DID anyone read the original Spirit comics??? The comedic vibe seems like an homage to Will Eisner. Frank Miller is a fan of his work, Im sure he's on the right track. Spirit was NEVER really serious

is it just me or does M.Bison seem extremely creepy?

Why all the flack? It's a hero movie. It's Frank Miller. There are a gaggle of beautiful women to oggle and drool over. It's at Christmas, so if the evenings a total bore, drink some eggnog and go see a flick to pass the time.
I really think this movie is going to be fun and not a **** Tracy knock job.
Still hoping for Miller to get his hand in on a script for the Dark Knight Returns.

Sin City and 300 were visually extraordinary, each in its own way, and the Spirit looks like it will be no exception. I don't know if the plot and dialogue will match the quality of the innovative visuals, but I am eager to see it anyway. Besides, those women look really hot.

Hey Dr. Doc... I read a bunch of the old The Spirit comics, and I'm a big fan of the comics now (especially the first 12 by Darwin Cooke, that guy amazes me, i.e. The New Frontier). The comics are fun and always a bit over the top, while seemingly more realistic than a super-powered hero. This movie, I'm hoping, will be good, the problems I have with the trailers so far: The Octopus (although I love Sammy, we're not supposed to see his face!), The Christmas day release (I'll be hangin' with family and won't be able to go on opening day, which bites), and the girls (sheesh, couldn't they have gotten some prettier ones... wait a minute... oops, I was thinking of an old TV show I used to watch... I hate those Golden Girls flash-backs!)

hahaha... awesome.

If you can't even get the mask right, a damn simple mask at that, how can you expect to get anywhere close to the way the Spirit is supposed to work? Miller is going to do to the Spirit what Schumacher did to Batman.

Dr. Doc, I am not creepy at all I am flirting with EmilyEmily!!!! How is that creepy have you ever been infatuated and in love with girls on threads. I'm looking for a sweetheart and EmilyEmily caught my eye. Anyway, all of guys have your opinions about Spirit. Sam Jackson will be playing a character by the name of Octopus I saw his jacket and he looks like a comic book pimp.

What do you expect from comics official gov propagandist and 911 official story supporter. More garbage, Miller should be ashamed.
