Update: Hathaway Also Up for Spider-Man 4?

It looks like we can add another name to the list of actresses who are reading for a new role in Spider-Man 4. Deadline Hollywood reports:
While Sony Pictures insists no decisions have been made, sources tell me that the producers have approached Anne Hathaway to star in the film. Maybe you experts have an idea what she'll play? All I know is that she's wanted for a starring role, and she won't replace Kirsten Dunst who's also cast in the Spidey fourquel.
Julia Stiles, Rachel McAdams and Romola Garai have previously been rumored to be auditioning for possibly Felicia Hardy/Black Cat. Will Sony Pictures start making official casting announcements soon? Stay tuned...
UPDATE: Entertainment Weekly talked to Hathaway's rep who said that "there are no negotiations underway." EW adds, however, that he declined to comment on whether or not the actress had met with the film's producers.

I really hope Rachel McAdams will be involved....as Black Cat or not, she's very beautiful and I think she's a really good actress.

TBH I think any new female lead is dumb without taking care of the gwen stacy thing first, but I think silver sable could be to the FOX marvel movies what nick fury is to the marvel owned.

knowing Sam Raimi, if Black Cat is a part of the movie, he won't put a big name actress in it for the sake of it. Think about it. Alfred Molina was fairly well known before Doc Ock, but not in the league of someone like William Hurt or Jeff Bridges. Thomas Haden Church, those who knew Wings know his name, not many others would until Sideways and his Oscar nomination. He was cast as Sandman before the nomination. Topher Grace, didn't capitalise on That 70s Show like Ashton Kutcher did. They're all actors who are familiar but are great talents (Topher for his hilarious cameos in Ocean's 11 & 12 and Traffic) I can see him go for Anne Hathaway, an Oscar nominee herself, but I don't think he would go with someone like Rachel McAdams. She's good, but not to the caliber that Sam uses. I also point out Willem Dafoe's nomination for Shadow of the Vampire. I would like to see Sam bring Gary Cole in somewhere. He used him brilliantly in A Simple Pkan and in The Gift. And more Bill Nunn, less Ted Raimi. But who will replace Elisabeth Banks, and wonder whether Bryce Dallas Howard and James Cromwell are coming back? Who doesn't want to see the fate of the Staceys on screen?

of course they're reading for Black Cat. Just how many prominent female characters do you think exist in Spiderman comics? and since they've already checked off MJ, Gwen, and Betty...ding ding ding - Black Cat is the winner!
I think Anne Hathaway would be awesome. She's sexy, scrumptious, and those eyes are perfect for a sultry vixen like Felicia Hardy. Though i'm not crazy about her in blonde/platinum hair -have you seen those new pics from 'Alice in Wonderland', the wig does not do her justice - she's definitely better as a brunette.
My only hope would be that the tone of the Black Cat story arc take some elements from the recent Kevin Smith "Spiderman/Black Cat" mini series. Of course the film producers wouldn't repeat the drug addiction plot, but if they could infuse some of the raw/gritty/sexual charisma between Spidey and Black Cat - that would would make for an interesting backstory in the new movie. Especially considering how heavy the love connection with MJ has taken priority with each of the Spidey films thus far.
and just as an additional side bar: Anne Hathaway in skin-tight vinyl? ....pure hotness...

It could just be for the Felicia Hardy part and no Black Cat in the film. I mean Conners has been there since 2 and there hasn't been a Lizard sighting yet. Everybody jumps to conclusions too early.

i don't know if anyone has said this one yet, but what about liz allen? the red headed little boy could easily be normie osborne. i don't know how likely that is, but raimi does love his classic 60s characters, and that would apply to liz. normie could be a love child harry had that nobody else knew about until now. the story could deal with liz coming forward with the the existence of the child and peter's guilt over feeling responsible for the death of his father and grandfather. just a theory that i haven't heard anyone else mention.

I like the way you're thinking, ".". And personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a Black Cat movie, but not yet. A villain/antagonist who will cause problems in Peter's personal life, create friction between he and MJ, and likely redeem themselves at the end by helping Spidey take out the movie's real villain? We just saw that in the last one.

Its doubtful sony will release the spider-man film rights back to marvel any time soon. They have a hit series and can easily keep making spidey movies. compared to say the fox marvel films. I see ff/dd/ probably going back to marvel before we ever see xmen and spider-man go back.
As for the rampent rumors of black cat i am curious to see what is actually going to happen for this film. I do really hope they wont be changing the backstory and what not for black and all that.
Still personally rather see kraven and lizard for sm4. I really do think they would be the best ones to go with. But i will wait to we know for sure what is going on for sm4 before i judge the film more.
As for black cat we are likely going to go through all top 20-30yr old actresses that are hot in hollywood right now. To we get official word.

Why do I get the feeling that “Spider-Man 4” is going to be nothing more than a repetition of “Spider-Man 3”?
Why do I get the feeling that “Spider-Man 4” is going to be a chick-flick?
Why do I get the feeling that “Spider-Man 4” is going to be yet another snippet of Peter and MJ’s love-life-gone-wrong and that whoever they cast, be it Stiles, McAdams, Garai, or Hathaway, will be nothing more than yet another member of the Peter-MJ-(insert name here) love triangle?
Seriously, it’s as if Raimi learned absolutely NOTHING from the last film. We don’t need another “coming of age” story now that Peter is practically in his thirties and should be married or working a steady job. If Peter is still living in that crummy basement apartment then I’m seriously going to throw something at the movie screen.
Enough of this sappy “Peter Parker is the everyman” bullcrap. He’s not. He’s a genetically enhanced spider-human hybrid. Big deal if he has girl problems. Hell, come to think of it, every damn superhero there is has girl problems.
NOT TO RAIMI: Think of an actual plot and story to guide the film rather then building everything, villains, fights, and action pieces around a typical Peter/MJ fight about their relationship. Because that formula does not work anymore.
